The successful candidate will lead day-to-day maintenance operations, manage a multi-skilled engineering team, and ensure all plant, machinery, and site services operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with legislative and food safety standards. Approximately
60-70% of the role is hands-on
, working directly on-site with equipment and production teams.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, motivate, and develop a multi-skilled engineering team to achieve site KPIs and support overall business performance
Support recruitment, training, and retention of engineering staff
Plan and prioritise maintenance workloads to maximise uptime and minimise production downtime
Ensure all plant and equipment are maintained in line with statutory, safety, and industry standards
Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs to ensure safe and reliable operations
Develop and manage engineering stores and spare parts systems
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, best practice, and adoption of new technologies
Ensure compliance with food safety legislation, internal procedures, and audit requirements
Maintain high standards of GMP, hygiene, and housekeeping across the site
Reduce waste and improve efficiency across engineering and production
Ensure all maintenance work meets hygiene, safety, and legislative requirements
Complete maintenance records, reports, and documentation accurately and on time
Work closely with senior management on engineering and operational requirements
Implement preventative maintenance schedules and engineering risk assessments
Contribute to Food Safety, HACCP, TACCP, and VACCP activities as required
Ensure machinery operates at optimal performance with minimal disruption to production
Take ownership of site engineering health and safety
Provide on-call support and demonstrate flexibility to meet operational demands

Essential Qualifications & Experience
Recognised qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Strong hands-on knowledge of both electrical and mechanical systems
16th or 17th Edition (or equivalent)
Proven leadership and people management capability
Strong planning, organisational, and project management skills
Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding ability
High attention to detail, particularly in documentation and compliance
Ability to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced production environment
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Food hygiene training
Previous Engineering or Maintenance Manager experience within food manufacturing
IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
