Job Summary



We are seeking a skilled

Electrical & Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

to support the continuous operation of its meat and poultry processing facility. The role involves maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment, including PLC-controlled machinery and generator backup systems. The successful candidate will play a critical role in minimising downtime, ensuring food safety compliance, and maintaining reliable power and production systems.

Key Responsibilities



Maintenance & Repairs



Carry out

planned preventative maintenance (PPM)

and reactive maintenance on production machinery and site equipment. Diagnose and repair

electrical and mechanical faults

on meat and poultry processing machines, including conveyors, cutting, sorting, packing, and handling equipment. Maintain and troubleshoot

PLC-controlled systems

, including fault finding, adjustments, and basic programming support where required. Respond efficiently to equipment breakdowns and production outages, ensuring minimal downtime. Ensure all work complies with

health & safety

, hygiene, and food production regulations.

Generator & Power Systems



Manage and maintain

generator backup systems

, ensuring readiness during power outages. Carry out routine testing, servicing, and fault-finding on generators, electrical panels, and changeover systems. Support outage planning, emergency power restoration, and continuity of operations.

Documentation & Reporting



Record all maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts usage accurately. Report recurring faults and recommend improvements to reduce breakdowns. Assist with maintaining maintenance schedules and asset records.

Continuous Improvement



Support installation, commissioning, and upgrading of machinery and electrical systems. Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, safety, and efficiency. Work closely with production and management teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills & Qualifications



Essential



Proven experience in an

electrical and mechanical maintenance role

within an industrial or manufacturing environment. Strong fault-finding skills across

electrical, mechanical, and PLC-controlled systems

. Knowledge of

meat or poultry processing equipment

or similar production machinery. Experience working with

PLC control systems and automation

. Relevant engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3+, City & Guilds, HNC/HND, or equivalent experience). Strong understanding of

health & safety regulations

and safe systems of work.

Desirable



Experience within the

food production or poultry/meat processing industry

. Knowledge of

pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, drives, and sensors

. Experience maintaining

generator and backup power systems

. Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings. Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Working Conditions



Production-based environment with exposure to machinery and electrical systems. Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, or on-call as required. Compliance with PPE, hygiene standards, and safety procedures is mandatory.
