Job Description

Position Summary



The Electrical Panel Builder / Wireman is responsible for assembling, wiring, and testing electrical control panels and systems according to engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications. The role requires precision, attention to detail, and adherence to electrical standards and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities



Assemble and wire electrical control panels and enclosures according to electrical schematics and layout drawings.

Install components such as circuit breakers, contactors, relays, PLCs, terminal blocks, switches, and other control devices.

Route and terminate cables, ensuring correct wire identification, labelling, and connection integrity.

Perform functional and continuity testing on panels.

Assist with fault-finding, troubleshooting, and rework of panels when required.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.

Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., BS EN 60204, IEC, or UL standards as applicable).

Collaborate with engineers to resolve technical or design issues.

Complete all build records, inspection checklists, and quality documentation accurately.

Qualifications



HNC, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering / Installation.

18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) certification preferred.

Apprenticeship or equivalent practical training in electrical assembly or panel building.

Skills and Competencies



Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings. (Essential)

Skilled in wiring, crimping, cable routing, and panel assembly. (Essential)

Familiarity with control systems, PLCs, VFDs, and industrial automation equipment. (Essential)

Knowledge of safe electrical practices, lock-out/tag-out, and PPE requirements. (Essential)

Excellent attention to detail and quality workmanship. (Essential)

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. (Essential)

Capable of working independently and as part of a team. (Essential)

Good communication and time management abilities. (Essential)

Knowledge of PLC programming / willingness to learn (Desirable)

Experience



2-5 years of experience in electrical panel building, wiring, or related industrial electrical work.

Experience in control panel assembly for manufacturing, automation, or process control systems preferred.

Working Conditions



Office-based with occasional visits to customer sites.

Hours of work: Monday - Thursday 07:30 - 16:30, Friday 07:30 - 13:30

Holiday 24 Days + Bank Holidays.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: 30,000.00-35,000.00 per year
