Electricity Assessing Officer

Purpose of this role



Technical assessment of electrical engineers on BUUK networks ensuring an efficient system to undertake Network Authorisation change.

Home based, covering the Cambridge, Peterbourgh & Essex region



Your key responsibilities are



The Assessing Officer will be responsible for the Network Authorisations issued to Electrical operational Engineers.

The role will be actively engaged in future changes to Distribution Safety Rules (DSR) (GE-NOP-ES-0017) alongside the development of appropriate operational training to staff.

The role will work closely with the Safety and Technical Competence (STC) Manager ensuring training is relevant to any DSR / operational changes identified, contributing to the development and competency assessment.

Managing the competence of individuals responsible for the safe systems of work around the Electricity Network ensuring compliance with Distribution Safety Rules.

Undertake continual improvement reviews of any existing or new IT systems / processes available, internal and external.

Represent the business in areas of technical training at Industry bodies.

Assist the STC Manager with identifying operational competency gaps, provide strategic guidance & collaborate with the business leads to develop a programme to close these gaps with requisite resources from internal and external providers.

Support the STC Manager with the development and management of the Safety and Technical Competencies for engineering personnel, encompassing the design, build, test, commissioning, maintenance, and decommissioning of utility assets.

Ensure all approved and competent engineers are continually working to agreed BUUK procedures.

Deliver timely and accurate reporting regarding engineer competence to senior management.

Contribute to compliance with departmental KPIs including Incident investigations and safety audits of operational staff.

Including the training of additional engineers to develop competence around leading of Accident & Incident Investigations.

Any other duties deemed appropriate by the Head of Electricity Asset Management.

Qualifications



Minimum - Higher National Certificate in Engineering (Electrical).

Valid EUSR (CSCS) Card.

IEng in Electrical Engineering (or working towards).

IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).

Full Driving Licence.

Experience/Knowledge



Experience in supporting the development of colleagues

Management, technical, industry, contract, programme, policy, standards, system operations, commissioning and Health & Safety experience in power distribution, up-to 33kV.

Leading multiple project delivery teams, in relation to Primary Sub-stations, including 33kV Network Management Systems.

High Voltage electrical design, maintenance on transmission & distribution networks.

Abilities/Skills



An effective leader, with excellent communication, influencing, negotiation & interpersonal skills.

Proactively builds knowledge capability through personal effort.

Ability to use Microsoft Office programmes or equivalent.

Desirable



NEBOSH in General Safety.

Management of system operations, commissioning and Health & Safety experience in power distribution, up-to 132kV.

Leading multiple project delivery teams, in relation to Primary Sub-stations, including 132kV Network Management Systems

Conditions of Employment



You will be required to participate in a standby rota.

You will hold a driving licence.
