As part of our ongoing growth and investment in future technologies, we are expanding our technical team with the recruitment of an experienced Electronics Design Engineer. You will work on cutting-edge LED lighting systems, from initial concept through to prototype, validation, and manufacturing. TLC supports global OEM and Tier 1 customers and is committed to staying at the forefront of the automotive lighting sector. Role Summary We are looking for a hands-on, technically competent Electronics Design Engineer with experience in automotive electronics, particularly in LED-based systems. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of electronic design, from concept to production, working closely with cross-functional teams including CAD, optical, thermal, and software engineers. Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will work on multiple concurrent projects, contributing to the design, schematic capture, PCB layout, validation, and documentation of electronic assemblies and systems. Key Responsibilities o Analyse customer technical requirements and liaise directly with client engineering teams o Create and maintain electronic designs including schematic capture, PCB layout, and BOM definition o Design both analogue and digital circuits using Altium Designer o Collaborate with internal and external teams on electronic system integration within vehicle architecture o Support prototype builds, hands-on debugging, and testing at component and system level o Be responsible for the development of embedded firmware in C for microcontroller applications o Centralize in-house development (C, C#, LabVIEW, NI TestStand) to support functional validation o Contribute to DVP&R, DFMEA, and thermal simulation of PCBs and complete assemblies o Provide input into the RFQ process - initial circuit proposals, BOM estimation, and specification clarification o Identify and mitigate electronic component obsolescence risks with the purchasing 14 Madeley Road Industrial Estate, North Moons Moat, Redditch, B98 9NB, UK I T: +44 1527 759440 www.thelightingconsultants.com page 2 team o Prepare documentation to support engineering release, testing, and homologation activities o Participate in the NPI process from early development through to production release o Attend customer and supplier meetings (UK and abroad) as required o Support ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and APQP/PPAP-related documentation and control o Maintain clear project documentation and take full ownership of assigned workstreams o Apply creative and cost-effective solutions to technical challenges Experience & Qualifications Required o Degree related to electronics and software engineering o Must have demonstrated knowledge of both electronics and embedded software o 5+ years' experience in automotive or high-reliability electronics product development o 5+ years' experience in embedded software development o Understanding of automotive project requirements and validation processes o Experience designing LED drivers, power regulation circuits, and microcontroller interfaces o Familiarity with design for manufacture, BOM management, and issue tracking o Proficient in PCB design (schematic capture and layout) using Altium Designer o Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design and mixed-signal systems o Able to read schematics o Able to use oscilloscope, power supply, logic analyser o Soldering of SMD components to IPC J-STD-001 standards o Strong understanding of embedded firmware development in C and of software development lifecycle o Microchip PIC microcontrollers o Microchip programming and debugging tools e.g. PICKIT4 o Microchip MPLAB X IDE o Microchip Studio o Experience with thermal simulation tools (e.g., Fusion 360) and PCB thermal management strategies o Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills o Good communication and teamwork capabilities o Fluent in spoken and written English o Full UK driving license Preferred: o Automotive lighting design experience o Familiarity with automotive communication protocols: CAN, LIN, FlexRay o Python, C++ or other development language o Git, Subversion o Understanding of MISRA standards and AUTOSAR principles o Experience with simulation (SPICE, WCCA) and RF signal integrity o Familiarity with homologation, ECE/SAE lighting regulations, and type approval processes o Experience in testing and validating electronic assemblies under thermal and EMC 14 Madeley Road Industrial Estate, North Moons Moat, Redditch, B98 9NB, UK I T: +44 1527 759440 www.thelightingconsultants.com page 3 constraints o Understanding of APQP, PPAP, and full product lifecycle in an automotive context o Hands-on experience with prototype development, harness builds, and fault-finding o Knowledge of electronic material selection and component reliability Personal Attributes o Technically curious and passionate about electronics innovation o Proactive and self-motivated with a desire to see tasks through to completion o Strong organisational skills and attention to detail o Able to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams o Confident communicator, capable of presenting ideas clearly o Open to learning and continuous professional development o Willing to travel as required for project or customer support Job Details o Location: TLC HQ, 14 Madeley Road Industrial Estate, Redditch, B98 9NB o Working Hours: 37.5 hours/week o Mon-Thu: 08:30 - 17:00 o Fri: 08:30 - 14:00 o Salary: Competitive, based on experience and capabilities o Benefits: o 23 days holiday (rising to 28 with service) o 8 statutory holidays o Company pension scheme You must be eligible to work in the UK to apply for this position
