Electronics Engineer

Reading - Hybrid Working

Thales OME designs a range of state-of-the-art solutions for some of the most technically advanced defence and security platforms in the world, and we\xe2\x80\x99re seeking talented engineers who can apply their knowledge and skills in an electronics role.

This role is a development role, intended to give an engineer with some existing design experience the opportunity to build their technical skills, widen their exposure to different aspects of the design lifecycle, and learn about complex defence products in more detail.

The role will cover all aspects of the product lifecycle, from concept studies, requirements, selection of technology, design and development, integration, validation and qualification.

Key responsibilities of the role

• Undertake design of electronic circuit assemblies, from concept through design, test and system integration
• Engage with a multi-disciplinary team across the project (systems, mechanical, software, safety, etc.) to develop an optimum solution
• Work collaboratively with the project team to ensure products meet all requirements
• Contribute to the development of the wider electronics team, including proposing and implementing improvements, participating in peer reviews and sharing knowledge and good practice across the team
• Generate design documentation such as specifications, test plans and design records
• Prepare for and participate in peer reviews and project design reviews
• Report progress of work against cost, schedule and performance

About you

We are looking for an innovative and forward thinking individual with the following skills, experience and attributes:

• Experience of electronic/electrical design in a real-world environment (circuit simulation, block diagrams, drawing schematics, etc.)
• Use of schematic capture packages (Cadence, Mentor Graphics or similar)
• Practical experience of lab work (e.g. soldering, circuit testing, cable assembly, debug, etc.)
• Some experience testing at circuit board and system level (e.g. board bring-up and debug, EMC testing)
• General understanding of engineering process and design lifecycles

The Work Environment

At Thales, we believe in flexible SMART working and have the expectation this role will be delivered through a combination of remote and office based collaborative working.
