Since 1996, Protea has been leading the way in gas analysis. From our base in Cheshire, we've developed and commercialised innovative technologies such as FTIR, to support the online measurement of emissions, process and research gases.
We are seeking a skilled Emissions Systems Technician to join our installation and support team. You will be responsible for carrying out emissions analyser return-to-base gas checks, Factory Acceptance Tests, Site Acceptance Tests, along with the responsibility of Protea's rental and demonstration equipment. There will be opportunity for international travel with this role, but it is not a requirement.
This role plays an important part in the support and development of our analytical systems to the UK and overseas. Time will also be spent on active R&D projects to further develop Protea's gas analyser product range and also interact with collaborative partners on work looking to control and reduce emissions.
Ideal this role would suit a stack emissions test engineer (e.g. MCERTS Level 1 or Level 2) looking for a sideways move to an instrument manufacturing business, with more regular hours and a better work/life balance. Growth in the customer-facing commercial aspects of this role will be encouraged.

What you'll be doing:
To be fully familiar with the operation of Protea's emissions monitoring products such as P204M, atmosFIRt and atmosFIR CEM, including both hardware and software set-up
The setting-up and test of return-to-base portable emissions systems, including gas checks and fault finding
Providing point-of-contact technical support via our support desk for customers technical queries on emissions monitoring systems
The assembly, configuration, and test of new portable and fixed emissions systems, including system leak checking and fault finding - familiarity with gas cylinders and Swagelok fittings is ideally required
To carry out Protea's factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT) and performance checking of emissions monitoring systems (CEMS), working with the manufacturing group, to establish a quality checking of CEMS in line with the certification and market needs
To assist in the disassembly, packing and labelling of equipment once tests are complete
To support in the upkeep of Protea's in-house rental and demonstration equipment, ensuring the relevant equipment needed is stocked and maintaining the correct operation of parts
Following suitable training, to carry out demonstrations and rentals of our transportable and fixed CEM equipment, in the UK and overseas (infrequent global travel required)
To formulate suggestions for continuous improvement of the product, with respect to changing legislation and in liaison with industry bodies
Following suitable training, to provide commercial support to customers including quoting support time and spares.
Required Skills and Experience:
Hands-on with industrial gas emissions monitoring equipment, its maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting including technologies such as NDIR, FID and FTIR
Experience of working to MCERTS and in ISO 17025 (UKAS) certified laboratories, ideal as an on-site stack emission tester
Confident with Swagelok gas fittings, pressurised gas cylinders and regulators
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to liaise with end-users, Distributors, external test laboratories and industrial partners.
Excellent IT and technical skills required for operation and maintenance of the instrumentation.
Desirable:
Fully versed in CEM standards such as EN 15267 and EN 14181
Capable of reading and understanding system P&ID drawings
Hands-on experience with system testing and commissioning.
