HOWGILL MISSION STATEMENT:
Howgill Family Centre supports children and families, with particular emphasis on the vulnerable and disadvantaged. Howgill aims to intervene early, helping to prevent families getting into crisis.
JOB SUMMARY:
To provide emotional and practical support to children and their families who have been identified as requiring additional emotional support.
PURPOSE OF POST:
to be responsible for the planning and delivery of emotional wellbeing services in the locality
to be committed to continuing professional development (CPD)
to build professional relationships with children, families and support professionals
to understand the nature of how children express themselves and their understanding of the world using play
RESPONSIBLE TO:
The Howgill Board of Trustees is the legal employer for this post and exercises the usual responsibilities attendant to this.
The Emotional Wellbeing Practitioner reports to the Howgill Manager.
MAIN DUTIES:
Accept children through self-referral and referrals from other support professionals in organisations such as schools, hospitals, clinics and social services
Assess each child and their individual needs
Determine a course of therapeutic play activities
Provide play activities in individual and group therapy sessions, normally on a weekly basis, to help children better cope with issues they face
Build up a relationship of trust with children and their parents/carers
Create a safe and stable environment in which children can express themselves through play
Review therapeutic interventions on a regular basis
Work with other healthcare professionals, such as social workers and medical practitioners
Attend meetings, maintain client records and produce reports on activities and progress.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERIC DUTIES:
To develop best practice and identify own development and training opportunities.
To contribute to the development of quality systems within Howgill Family Centre
To comply with all policies and procedures of Howgill Family Centre. The job description reflects the major tasks to be carried out by the post holders and identifies a level of responsibility at which the post holders will be required to work.
In the interest of effective working, major tasks may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changing needs and circumstances. Such reviews and other consequential changes will be carried out in consultation with the post holders. The post holders will also be required to carry out such duties as may be determined from time to time to be within the general scope of the post.
