Reporting to - Supervisor - Engine Test

Shift Patterns - Days (Mon-Fri) or Early Late (Mon-Fri) or 4 on/4 off (Rolling)

The selected candidate will contribute to the establishment and execution of engine testing programmes, spanning a diverse range of tests including durability, fuels and additive testing, and research projects involving prototype hardware. The scope extends from downsized passenger cars emphasising economy and emissions to high-output units prioritising performance, and heavy-duty applications. Additionally, involvement in Powertrain rig testing and Electrified driveline is anticipated.

Responsibilities:
  • Contribute towards engine / test piece palletisation, installation and setup of instrumentation and support systems.
  • Validate basic engine running and associated fluid, fuel and boost conditioning systems in test cell environment.
  • Be part of a team which contributes towards running customer test requirements in a test cell for specific customer development programmes.
  • Identify and diagnose unit faults, both mechanical and electrical, working with Engineering team to deliver effective solutions.
  • Carry out servicing and hardware changes.
  • Run the test cell using a combination of automated test cycles and manual operation leading into more complex tasks with support from Engineering teams.
  • Take ownership of the test piece, equipment, and hardware in the test cell (dependent on experience).
  • Liaise with supporting staff, Engineers, Supervisors, and customers on a technical level.
  • Continue and improve initiatives to reduce waste and optimise efficiency.
Skills:
  • Awareness and comprehension of Health and Safety principles.
  • Sound understanding of fundamentals related to gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Familiarity with engine support systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working within a testing environment or hands-on experience with engines.
  • Proficiency in automotive fault diagnostics with a systematic approach to general fault finding.
  • PC Skills
Experience & Qualifications:
  • Qualified to bachelor\'s degree or equivalent with appropriate experience preferably within the automotive sector.
  • Formal automotive qualification (preferred but not essential).
  • Experience gained with OEM dealership (preferred but not essential).
  • Experience in petrochemical testing (preferred but not essential).

Other:
  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours and to support validation activities in foreign countries.
  • Full UK driving license.
