Join UK Biobank's dynamic and growing team as an

Engineering and Facilities Manager

at our new headquarters in Manchester. You'll be part of a small, dedicated team responsible for ensuring high-quality and efficient engineering and facilities management across our sites, including Stockport, Manchester, Newcastle, Reading, Bristol, London, and Oxford.


Can you do it?




This position will see you take on a wide range of responsibilities, from supporting the engineering and facilities of UK Biobank's new Manchester headquarters to managing maintenance, fault diagnosis, and first-line repairs of plant and laboratory systems across various locations.


You'll work closely with the Head of Estates and Technical Services, contributing to technical installations and system improvements and ensuring all health & safety regulations are adhered to.


With frequent travel to various sites, this role offers variety and the opportunity to work with complex systems. You'll help ensure the smooth operation of key systems and make a tangible impact on scientific research.

This role is ideal for someone with a background in engineering or facilities management, with the ability to work across multiple locations and handle a wide range of responsibilities. You will need:


Technical Expertise:

Recognised facilities, electrical, or mechanical engineering qualification with experience in managing complex infrastructure and services, preferably in a clinical, hospital, or laboratory environment.

Team and Project Management:

Experience managing teams, supervising direct reports, and working autonomously to meet deadlines and complete tasks with minimal supervision.

Facilities Maintenance and Operations:

Ability to perform all aspects of facilities maintenance, including fault diagnosis, repairs, and working to SOPs in line with health and safety standards.

Travel and Flexibility:

Willingness to travel regularly across the UK, with a full UK driving licence, and the ability to plan and prioritise workloads effectively.

Desirable Experience:

Familiarity with recognised quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001), cryogenic storage systems, CDM regulations, and complex HVAC systems. Full UK driving licence and the ability to plan and manage your workload effectively.
