Finance Manager (Construction / M&E Contractor)

Very hands-on role with 1 direct report. Role will involve transactional finance duties.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

You'll have a strong background in accounting and finance, ideally gained in a construction, M&E, or contracting environment. You'll be confident using Sage software, comfortable working independently, and capable of managing the full finance cycle with minimal supervision.

Our client, a well established mechanical and electrical contractor based in Ickenham, is looking for an experienced

Finance Manager

to take full responsibility for our finance operations.

THE ROLE

As our

Finance Manager

, you'll oversee all day-to-day accounting, payroll and compliance work, ensuring accuracy and reliability across the board. You'll work closely with senior management and our external accountants, supporting sound decision-making and helping to maintain a clear picture of the company's financial position.

Your duties as

Finance Manager

will include:

Managing all bookkeeping and accounting tasks using Sage 50 Accounts Professional. Processing payroll through Sage 50 Payroll, including PAYE, NI and pension submissions. Overseeing VAT and CIS returns in line with HMRC regulations. Producing monthly management accounts, balance sheets, and profit & loss statements. Preparing and monitoring cash flow forecasts to support business planning. Managing supplier payments, customer invoicing and reconciliations. Liaising with external accountants for year-end accounts and audits. Maintaining control over accruals, prepayments and general ledger accuracy. Ensuring the business remains compliant with all statutory and financial obligations.

Finance Manager Requirements:

AAT Level 4, ACCA, CIMA (part-qualified or equivalent experience). 5-8 years' experience as a Finance Manager, Accounts Manager, or Senior Accounts Professional. Proficient in Sage 50 Accounts and Payroll. In-depth understanding of VAT, CIS, payroll, and HMRC compliance. Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organisation. Proactive, dependable, and able to take ownership of the finance function.
This is a hands on position within a small team, ideal for a Finance Manager or Senior Accounts Manager who enjoys being involved in every aspect of the finance function: from bookkeeping and payroll to management reporting and cash flow forecasting.
