About the Role



We're seeking a

hands-on, people-focused Maintenance Supervisor

to play a key role in leading engineering activities at our busy manufacturing facility in Birmingham.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a

fast-paced, high-output production environment

and wants to take ownership of daily maintenance coordination, team leadership, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Reporting to the

Head of Engineering

, you'll supervise a small team of engineers and technical operators to ensure equipment reliability, drive preventative maintenance programs, and promote a culture of safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities



Oversee and coordinate day-to-day maintenance activities, ensuring all breakdowns are managed efficiently and production uptime is maximised. Plan, assign, and monitor maintenance tasks, issuing daily and weekly work plans. Lead morning team meetings and set daily priorities for engineering staff. Support continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Kaizen, BDA analysis, etc.) to enhance equipment performance and reduce waste. Ensure all maintenance logs, PPM schedules, and defect databases are up to date and accurate. Manage external contractors on site, including RAMS and permit-to-work processes. Monitor maintenance KPIs including PPM completion rates, breakdown response times, and downtime versus runtime. Foster a strong culture of safety, quality, and compliance across all engineering operations. Participate in audits, implement corrective actions, and ensure adherence to GMP standards. Support the Head of Engineering with project work, shutdown planning, and resource management. Lead, coach, and develop maintenance team members through regular reviews and on-the-job training.

About You



You'll be an

experienced engineering or maintenance professional

with a proven background in supervising teams within a manufacturing setting -- ideally in

FMCG, food production, or other fast-paced automated environments

.

Essential:



Experience leading an engineering or maintenance team. Strong hands-on knowledge of both mechanical and electrical systems (multi-skilled). Solid understanding of preventative and reactive maintenance processes. Confident communicator with strong organisational skills. Proven ability to coach, motivate, and get the best out of people. Comfortable making quick, effective decisions under pressure. Working knowledge of GMP and health & safety procedures.

Desirable:



Engineering qualifications (electrical or mechanical). Experience with continuous improvement tools such as 5S, Kaizen, or Six Sigma. Previous experience within a food or packaging environment. Project management or budget control experience.
