About the role
Create autonomous, high-performing squads that deliver customer and business impact while developing talented engineers.
Requirements
Please note that this role is based in London with a requirement to attend our office 2-3 days per week
Key Responsibilities
People & Team Leadership
Lead 3-4 cross-functional product squads, collaborating closely with a Tech Lead, Architect and Product Manager.
Coach, mentor, and develop a team of 10-15 engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback loops, and career growth plans.
Hire, onboard, and retain diverse, world-class engineering talent; address performance concerns compassionately.
Foster psychological safety and high-trust, inclusive team dynamics.
Product & Delivery Leadership
Translate mission goals into measurable outcomes and milestones; keep squads shipping at a sustainable cadence.
Act as delivery owner and incident manager, ensuring robust on-call, observability, and post-mortems.
Communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs to stakeholders; swiftly unblock teams.
Technical Stewardship
Review technical proposals and system designs, guiding teams toward scalable, secure solutions.
Champion operational excellence (incident management, testing, monitoring, controlled rollouts).
Embed core engineering principles: small, reversible changes; ownership; "leave things better"; optimize for long-term impact.
Skills & Experience
Must-have
Prior hands-on software engineering background; strong ability to reason from first principles.
Proven track record leading teams engineers to deliver complex products.
Strong communication, stakeholder management, and coaching skills.
Nice-to-have
Experience in an experimentation-led or high-growth fintech environment.
Familiarity with bank-grade compliance, risk, or financial crime tooling.
Depth in incident response and post-incident review processes.
