The Role



As our Engineering Manager, you'll lead, coach, and scale our engineering team as we enter our next phase of growth. You'll ensure smooth delivery of projects, strengthen engineering operations, and create an environment where engineers can do their best work.

This role blends technical leadership, people development, and strategic delivery. You'll bring clarity and structure to engineering execution--balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability--while guiding the team through technical decisions that align with Pirical's business goals.

In your first year, you'll focus on establishing delivery rhythms, refining engineering processes, and scaling a high-performing, motivated team that can deliver impactful work across our products.

What You'll Do:



Ensure smooth and predictable project deliveries by setting clear milestones, anticipating challenges, and mitigating risks proactively. Manage and update business stakeholders on progress, priorities, and blockers, ensuring transparency and alignment. Oversee engineering operations, including code reviews, RFC reviews, and technical refinement sessions, maintaining high engineering standards. Define clear goals, health metrics, and KPIs, holding teams accountable for delivery, quality, and operational excellence. Steer technical investments and architectural decisions to maximise ROI and support sustainable business growth. Lead and develop Tech Leads and individual contributors, conducting performance reviews and supporting career progression. Drive technical recruitment and build a strong, diverse talent pipeline to scale the team effectively.

Who You Are:



Degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience. 8-10 years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years in people management. Proven ability to lead high-performing teams and deliver complex software projects. Strong technical acumen and judgment, you can dive deep into systems, challenge trade-offs, and make informed, pragmatic decisions. Skilled communicator fluent in both technical and business conversations. Empathetic leader who builds trust, supports growth, and fosters accountability without micromanaging. Strategic thinker focused on impact, scalability, and long-term maintainability. Calm and decisive under pressure; you guide teams through ambiguity with integrity and clarity.

This role is hybrid, requiring presence in our London office a minimum of 3 days per week.
