Engineering Manager

London, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Your New Role at NewDay

Foundations API is central to NewDay's technology platform and supports services used by millions of customers. We are seeking an Engineering Manager who thrives in complex settings. This person will collaborate closely with Product and guide teams to deliver significant platform improvements through solid engineering methods.

This role is technical but not hands-on. You'll stay close to the detail, enabling sound technical judgment and decision-making, without needing to write production code day-to-day. If you care about delivery, people, and building systems-at-scale that last, this role offers the chance to create a real impact.

Over time, success in this role usually means impacting beyond your own teams. You influence cross-team results, contribute earlier to work, and help set a higher standard for engineering and delivery across the wider platform.

You'll Deliver

Consistent results for intricate change involving several engineering groups Positive relationship with Product, crafting work and co-owning outcomes Clear management of trade-offs, risks, and dependencies across teams Continuous improvement by encouraging experimentation and crafting space for teams to evolve practices and technology in a safe, pragmatic way Quicker, more secure delivery throughout the domain, supported by enhanced continuous delivery methods, automated testing, and production readiness Healthy, reliable services with balanced on-call and effective incident management Learning-led improvement by ensuring incidents result in meaningful, lasting change An encouraging, inclusive team environment where engineers can do their best work Growth and development of Engineering Leads and engineers through clear expectations, regular feedback & mentoring, addressing performance issues directly and fairly when needed

What You'll Bring

Experience managing several engineering teams within a complex technical setting Strong delivery leadership, with a focus on outcomes over activity Confidence working as an equal partner with Product Broad technical understanding of modern (agile) software development and (microservices) architecture Experience with CI/CD, automation, and secure software delivery Ability to communicate technical risks and options clearly to a wide range of collaborators A thoughtful, people-centred approach to leadership, mentoring, feedback, and performance management

What We'd Love You to Know or Learn

Experience working on platform or shared-service teams Experience in regulated, PCI or high-scale environments Familiarity with cloud-based architectures, ideally Azure (or at least a desire to learn) Experience leading teams through significant technical and organizational change

We work with Textio to make our job design and hiring inclusive.
