The Role
The successful candidate will direct and coordinate activities of a team of manufacturing engineering personnel designing and developing manufacturing processes, programming and tooling for a range of projects. The Engineering Manager will have overall responsibility for planning, organisation, control, integration and completion of all engineering projects for the site.
This role will also be accountable for ensuring technical support in estimating and launching new programs (NPI), measuring and improving existing programs within the business continuous improvement program.
This position sits in our Newton Abbot, UK facility and will report to the General Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the Chief Technical Officer for the site
Coordinate all aspects of New Product Introduction (NPI) to meet program timescales and financial budgets
Optimise process capability to drive improvements in yield and margins
Review and evaluate product requests from customers and formulate conceptual designs to meet customers' requirements
Cost estimating on new opportunities
Develop the skills and capabilities of the manufacturing engineering team to comply with customer and business requirements
Develop capable processes and standard work within manufacturing engineering and manufacturing operations and ensure compliance
Partner with Barnes Aerospace Corporate Engineering to drive company-wide engineering best practices and standard work.
Interface with customer representatives and internal personnel concerned with technical developments, scheduling, or manufacturing for resolution of problems or engineering issues as required
Ensure coordination with other departments to develop a unified approach for processing new products or improving existing products
Manage the engineering budget, develop capital investment plans for technology and expansion of existing capabilities
Ensures adherence to applicable Barnes Aerospace internal, federal, state and local laws and regulations related to compliance and takes responsibility to ensure ongoing conformity with such rules and regulations
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree preferred in Engineering or related discipline and 10+ years of experience.
Experience required in an aerospace or manufacturing environment.
Experience in leading technical teams.
Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
Current knowledge of aero engine industry standards and requirements is an advantage.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently
Ability to prioritise responsibilities under pressure and be self-motivating and able to recognise and introduce improvements
