Job Description

Specialising in the design and manufacture of both off-the-shelf and complex custom engineered lifting solutions, we are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager.

Working within our global engineering business based in Poole, you will lead and oversee an established Engineering team, reporting to the Operations Director. You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day Design Engineering Team who prepare design briefs and detailed specifications, to facilitate the companies comprehensive custom engineered lifting solution demands. In addition, you will manage the new product development pipeline with the design, research and development of new products from initial concepts through to prototyping, pre-production and final release.

The role demands will be exciting and varied, driven by the demands and requirements of our industry and global customer base.

It is highly preferred that you have experience of working specifically on lifting projects, Proven track record of prioritising tasks and achieving strict deadlines within an Engineering Team, Able to adapt to a dynamic workflow, from a global customer base, being able to quickly prioritise and re-prioritise both yourself and others within a team, Holding a meticulous eye for detail and capable of checking technical drawings and complex calculations, Ability to communicate ideas effectively at all levels within the business, including non-technical teams, suppliers and customers, If not already experienced in lifting, the ability to quickly become familiar with lifting norms, standards and laws, and lifting equipment design and use, Educated to at least bachelor's degree (BEng) level in a relevant engineering specialty, such as Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering.
As the Engineering Manager will be responsible for overseeing the design of components for MOD projects with Official Sensitive designation (UK eyes only), only a UK national can be considered for this position.

Primary Responsibilities:



Providing leadership, management, guidance, and support to the engineering department and all involved personnel. Overseeing performance appraisals and development of engineering personnel. Driving innovation within the engineering department. Setting departmental priorities and managing workload. Ensuring all company products built and all design work is completed in compliance with current applicable global design standards. Including particular reference to ASME for the USA, for Europe the EC Machinery Directive and for the UK, The Product Safety and Metrology etc. (Amendment etc.) (EU Exit) Regulations and their associated requirements for ASME, CE and UKCA marking. Ensuring all designs are rigorously checked using FEA software, beam analysis software or/and by hand calculation. Ensuring that all general arrangement, rigging, testing and manufacturing drawings are checked by either themselves, or a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. Responsible for the maintenance and updating standard product drawings. Responsible for ensuring that accurate packing drawings for container loading are produced in a timely manner. Responsible for ensuring timely and correct responses to both internal and external stakeholders. Managing and allocating of software licensing and responsible for annual engineering budgeting and software renewals. Providing support and resource to assist the Operations department with the preparation of load test schedules and reports and conducting of tests as required. Representing the company as a technical expert on advisory panels, groups, committees, or councils looking at any applicable lifting industry standards if the opportunity to do so arises, as required. Responsible for the completion and maintenance of Technical Files and User Instructions for company products. Overseeing the design, research and development of new products from initial concepts through to prototyping, testing, pre-production and final release. Lead technical specialist in relation to our company products and offering our customers the best solution to their lifting challenges. Maintaining an extensive knowledge of lifting law and standards, keeping abreast of standard changes and updates and maintaining standards registers. Responsible for the creation, review and maintenance of engineering documents within the Management System to maintain ISO accreditations. Responsible for the completion of corrective and preventative actions arising from audits and non-conformance relating to the engineering function. Draughting professional and accurate 2D engineering drawings from 3D design models, such as: Fabrication Drawings, General Arrangement Drawings, Testing Drawings, Packing Drawings and Machining Drawings.

Role Specifics:



Availability: We are recruiting 1 x Engineering Manager to lead our Engineering Team.

Location: Office Based - Holton Heath Trading Park, Poole.

Salary: 45,000 - 65,000 Dependent on Experience.

Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 08:30 to 17:30. Friday 08:30 to 16:00.

Holiday: 20 days pro-rata plus the Christmas Shutdown period and UK Bank Holidays.
