The role




We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Engineering team. The Engineering Manager will be an experienced, inspiring leader who will take overall responsibility for the technical development and delivery of our products that are used by over 16,000 UK schools. You will




Leadership

Ensuring our engineering team have the right talent, capabilities and context to build, deliver and maintain our products. Lead and be accountable for all elements of engineering including development, devops, documentation, performance, testing and 3rd line support. Identify and prevent issues before they happen and lead us forward ensuring we keep current with modern software architectures, frameworks and methodologies. Work with the wider organisation and stakeholders to ensure the engineering team plays its part in hitting our business goals.



Technology and innovation

Work with senior developers to ensure both pragmatic and best in class development and devops solutions that are robust, reliable and efficient. Work with security and compliance to ensure our products are continually improving and are in line with ISO 27001 and GDPR. Be a key influencer and owner of the Engineering roadmap, working closely with the Director of Product and product managers, to ensure we understand and meet the needs of our customers. Be constantly curious and innovative keeping in touch with new software development techniques across. Have the confidence to share creative and disruptive ideas.

Requirements



The ideal person



Proven leadership of high-performing engineering teams across multiple disciplines and levels of experience including effective performance management Proven track record of leading a team to develop, deploy, test and support software solutions across a wide range of technology stacks, programming languages and infrastructure. Strong collaborative mindset with a focus on alignment, outcomes, and continuous improvement Knowledge and a proven track record of developing scalable, supportable and testable software solutions for front end, back end and mobile platforms. Experience managing complex, cross-team programme delivery involving multiple workstreams and dependencies Experience of using Google Cloud Platform for scale, automation and resilience/DR





Nice to have



Masters or degree in a technology related subject Held positions in software development, operations, testing and other technical areas demonstrating a well-rounded command of technology disciplines Experience of EdTech either in a school, Local Authority or commercial environment Experience of some of the following stacks Python, Django, PostgreSQL, VueJS, Node, React, Mongo, .net, MSSQL Experience of implementing cyber security and data protection in line with ISO 27001 and GDPR
