The post holder will have teaching responsibility for groups of learners within a range of courses, for example, Functional Skills/GCSE/Award; with expected requirements for planning, delivery and assessment.

Key Responsibilities
1. Promote the aims and ethos of the College both within the teaching and learning context and within the corporate life of the College.
2. Contribute to the development of a curriculum which is appropriate to learner needs and conforms to the requirements of examination boards and funding agencies.
3. Manage the curriculum through preparation, research, liaison with colleagues and relevant agencies and management of resources & awarding body requirements. 4
4. Deliver, plan and assess the curriculum in an innovative, responsible and flexible manner using a highly individualised approach in collaboration with the Curriculum Area Manager.
5. Plan, assess and record the individual achievements of each learner against agreed plans and targets.
6. Deliver quality teaching and learning in line with professional standards and tailored to individual learner needs grounded in an informed understanding of their EHCP, and other assessments.
7. Evaluate the quality and success of the curriculum and implement curriculum quality improvement plans.
8. Participate in the pastoral welfare of learners.
9. Participate in staff training and development within the requirements of the College's programmes and priorities.
10. The post-holder will be expected to become familiar with the technological support available to students with visual impairment and other learning difficulties.
11. Engage in any individual or collaborative research and consultative work agreed by senior management as relevant to the area of work.
12. Contribute on an occasional and voluntary basis to the corporate life of the College.
13. Perform such other duties as are commensurate with the status and nature of the post.
Posts at Q2/3 will also undertake the Core Responsibilities above, but in addition will have wider responsibilities in respect of Departmental Curriculum Area Contribution (Q2) or Whole College Improvement (Q3).

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Degree qualification at grade 2.2 minimum
To hold a minimum Level 4 in a teaching qualification
To hold literacy and numeracy qualifications Level 2 minimum
To have three of more years recent teaching experience
Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills
Good IT skills, including word processing and spreadsheet packages
Excellent written communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
Manage workload confidently and adhere to deadlines
To have experience of internal verification
To have previous experience of the planning, delivery, tracking, review and evaluation of teaching and learning of entry level up to level 2 programmes.
To have previous experience of SEN learners with moderate to severe learning difficulties and be able to provide the associated curriculum, approaches and strategies.
To have previous experience of small steps, individualised approaches to curriculum and differentiation of materials and concepts and the tracking & review of achievements
To have previous experience of learners who have difficulties with emotional regulation
To have a positive approach to managing the behaviour of learners with moderate to severe learning difficulties
To be flexible, able to contribute to a wide range of learning situations and integrate ICT into their work
To be able to contribute effectively and professionally within a teamwork environment
To demonstrate awareness of a wide range of learning environments and of different training and learning strategies
To have experience in using online and interactive English resources
To have taught or have experience of teaching English to SEN learners
To be able to demonstrate learning strategies as appropriate to people with visual impairment and autism and/ or complex disabilities.
To have experience of Non Violent Crisis Intervention techniques or similar
To be familiar with communication methods and access technology as appropriate to learners with visual impairment and other disabilities

Queen Alexandra Charity (QAC) provides education, residential support, community services and enterprises in support of young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Education is provided through a national residential College that supports a diverse range of student/client abilities and needs. Our College provides education, training, routes to independent living and employment through an innovative, holistic approach to learning and support. It offers a vibrant, varied and fun educational experience for both residential and day students. Our curriculum aims to maximise adult life, independence and work opportunities for all students. Class sizes are small and support levels high.
We have educational and learning sites based in Birmingham, one of Europe's most welcoming and vibrant cities, with a rich and diverse culture. Our main site is based in Harborne, a pleasant leafy Birmingham suburb, on a friendly and green 8-acre campus with excellent facilities and resources. In addition we also have Pinewood Campus which is located on a business park and is designated to employment progression.
Clients within our Residential Services programme still require support and the aim is to deliver a service that provides them with the means to live independently/semi independently into the future. Many clients are either in education, voluntary work or paid employment not linked to QAC directly.
Our Community Services based at our Umberslade Campus in Stirchley include a supporter worker service, women's group, men's group, LGBTQ plus group, Saturday Socials, The Night Owl Experience (disability friendly night club visit in Birmingham City Centre).
