The post holder will be responsible for providing a telephone triage service for ENT
referrals received from general practice as well as triaging patients upgraded to the
ENT pathway by other specialities within the hospital setting (likely via email)
The post holder will pre-screen all referrals received either via email or via the
electronic referral service (eRS) to ensure that based on the refer / GP's assessment
that patients are suitable for telephone assessment, establishing if the patient would
instead benefit from either a face to face review in clinic or review by another
speciality. Transfer of this referral or onward booking of appointments will be the
responsibility of the ENT Triage Clinical Nurse Specialist
Under the support and guidance of the ENT Consultants make clinical judgements,
which will require assessment, planning and implementation of treatment, ensuring
that all specialist patients and their carers have access to appropriate advice and
support.

To work with the nurse specialist team to ensure that all patients have
equitable access to investigations, treatment and follow-up care.
To work with the nurse/midwifery specialist team to develop best practice in
line with NICE guidance.
To work with the team to develop guidelines to enhance optimal management
of patients.
To collect appropriate data against NICE guidance. To use audit as a tool to
improve practice and evaluate services.
To work with the team to implement recommendations from National audits
and benchmarking.
