Binnies are delighted to be expanding our team in the vibrant and historic City of Birmingham.

You will get the opportunity to work on interesting and varied flood, coastal and maritime projects for our clients including the Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales and local authorities.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to join a new office, where we can grow and develop our flood, coastal and maritime business together across the Midlands and further afield. We have numerous opportunities from Senior to Associate Director Level Environmental positions with the position offered dependent on the applicants\xe2\x80\x99 academic qualifications, any professional accreditation achieved and their skills and experience to date.

You would become an integral part of our multi-disciplinary National Environmental Services Team, which also works on other large infrastructure projects across sectors such as transport and renewable power and there would be opportunity to work on these projects if these are of interest. There is also opportunity to support our growing portfolio of water and catchment work including natural capital projects and Solutions By Nature; a joint venture providing nature-based solutions via blue-green infrastructure to the water industry.

We are a close team and have an active Environmental Community of Practice and pride ourselves on being at the forefront of environmental best practice and innovation, including digital EIA. Binnies hold the IEMA EIA Quality Mark which is a benchmark of our high standards in EIA delivery.

About the Role

  • Leading environmental support on a wide range of fluvial and coastal flood risk management projects as well as water utility, rail, renewable/ energy projects and other large-scale infrastructure depending on individual interest
  • Managing all stages of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) including SEA, feasibility, screening/scoping, and Environmental Statement chapters
  • Managing the range of other environmental assessments and consenting applications such as WFD, HRA, planning, Development Consent Orders and Environmental Permits
  • Supporting construction stage delivery
  • Liaising with project teams, clients, stakeholders and the public
  • Supporting business development and tenders
  • Providing a mentoring/supervisory role to more junior members of our team
  • Helping to grow our Midlands environmental team
Essential Requirements

The role is suitable for an experienced environmental professional with full professional membership (such as IEMA, IES or CIWEM) or close to achieving. You should possess and be able to demonstrate the following qualifications, skills and knowledge:
  • An environmental related degree
  • Either are chartered or close to achieving chartership with a relevant institute and/or be a Registered EIA Practitioner with IEMA
  • A sound understanding of environmental assessment
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience working on flood and/ or coastal projects
