Summary of role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term Environmental Officer role! As our Environmental Officer you will assist the Environmental Manager to develop, implement and manage Avon Fire and Rescue Service's (AF&RS) environmental and sustainability plans, policies and procedures.


You will play a pivotal role in maintaining our systems and providing support for environmental projects and initiatives.


This vacancy is open to full time applicants, and those looking for part time work. Any part time applications will be discussed with the line manager to ensure the hours meet our Service needs . Please state in your application how many hours you are looking for.

Some of the things you'll will be doing

Environmental Management System



Maintain Environmental Management System (EMS) Support the development and maintenance of EMS documentation. Organise reporting and certification requirements. Manage EMS internal audit processes.

Metering & Monitoring Systems



Manage the metering & monitoring systems to track, report and identify improvements. Regularly checking Avon Fire & Rescue Services' energy management and water metering portals. Identify opportunities to reduce costs and carbon emissions. Liaise with providers and suppliers. Collate data for analysis.

Environmental, Energy & Sustainability Initiatives



Provide general support for environmental projects and initiatives. Undertake environmental audits. Support the Environmental Manger to implement programmes. Support waste management. Keep abreast of environmental best practice and integrate these into initiatives. Help produce guidance and information around environmental issues. Attend and participate in local and national groups.

General Administration



Processing orders, invoices and financial reporting. Keeping contracts up to date. Willing to undertake training and development opportunities. Carry out any additional responsibilities as reasonable and appropriate, as agreed with line manager.




What we will need from you

Essential


Relevant qualification and/or relevant experience (environmental, business or project management) Basic knowledge or experience of Environmental or other similar Management Systems. Able to implement projects and deliver quality outcomes. Able to carry out primary and secondary research, undertake data analysis and produce statistical reports. Able to set own priorities, exercise initiative, work to deadlines and manage time effectively with minimal supervision. Computer literate and able to use Microsoft Office software. Proven ability to communicate effectively, using a variety of media, written and oral. Able to drive with a current driving licence, or able to arrange suitable transport to travel to various locations within the Service area. Willingness to accept and work to our Core Values during the course of employment. Strong stakeholder ethic with people-orientated approach. Desirable


Basic knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, statutory requirements, standards and best practice. Working knowledge of Agresso finance software. Professional qualification/s and/or membership in a relevant field e.g. IEMA, IES, CIBSE etc
