The role:

This position can reside within our Manchester, Leeds, London, or Newcastle offices, but will work closely with our team in Nottingham. The role is comprised of a variety of environmental professional service tasks and responsibilities and will see you involved in delivering impact assessment for planning and consenting, permitting and regulatory compliance assessments, and monitoring and management services related to project approvals. The projects you will be involved in will be varied, ranging in complexity, subject areas, and sectors of industry. It could involve enabling a client transform a manufacturing site to a wholly different use, permitting the decommissioning of a large industrial site with competing needs, or supporting the development of new technology towards a sustainable future use.

Your anticipated responsibilities include:

  • Technical project delivery of impact assessment for planning and consenting, permitting and regulatory compliance assessments, and monitoring and management services related to project approvals and natural area management
  • Project management and preparation of environmental reports for permitting and consenting (including EIA), and planning studies, including providing advice and direction regarding project approval pathways
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships and supporting clear and concise communications to clients and their stakeholders, clearly articulating your views and honest perspectives through active listening and engaged participation
  • Contributing to business development; identifying, pursuing and securing additional opportunities for work that will deliver tangible client and community benefits
  • Pursuing, with support, opportunities to improve your technical and non-technical skills, contributing to developing the skills of other team members.
About you:

To deliver against these responsibilities you will demonstrate senior consulting experience in the following technical capabilities:
  • Proven ability to apply EPR and/or EIA Regulations, including experience preparing approval documents to support consenting processes
  • 5+ years consulting experience in permitting and consents, including EIAs
  • Demonstrated skills in legislative interpretation and regulatory liaison
  • Knowledge of UK and EU regulatory frameworks and policy with respect to environmental permitting and other environmental approvals
  • Ability to drive to site and undertake fieldwork throughout the UK in various environments and sometimes remote locations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills: a strong team player who builds rapport with both internal & external stakeholders; communicates upwards and is receptive to technical review and guidance; and mentors less experienced team members
  • The commitment to deliver high quality and technically robust project outcomes to tight timeframes and within budgets.
