Providing competent and specialist environmental sustainability advice, coaching and support to Line Leaders, enabling them to effectively manage environmental sustainability impacts, risks and opportunities within their area(s) of responsibility
Conducting appropriate levels of assurance activities in support of the effective deployment of the SHE management system, ensuring it continues to meet the requirements of ISO 14001 and ISO 50001
Offering assurance for determining compliance with relevant legal, BAE Systems Operational Framework and SHE Management System requirements within a business or site(s)
Carrying out comprehensive investigations of incidents, identifying root causes and lessons learned to prevent reoccurrence
Promoting continuous improvement through effective communication, coaching and mentoring of line leaders, employees and contractors
Supporting across our value chain in their applications of Naval Ships SHE Policy & Sustainability Strategy
Designing and delivering workplace environmental sustainability programs, communications and initiatives - with a focus on Net Zero, circular economy, climate resilience, BAE Systems Sustainability Themes
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
Hold a relevant environmental sustainability qualification e.g. degree in Environmental based subject or equivalent
Experience of working in complex environments where strong collaboration, influencing and motivation skills are the key methods for implementing environmental sustainability improvements
Comprehensive knowledge of SHE Management Systems and assurance processes, including ISO 140001 and ISO 50001
Desirable:
Experience in applying specialist environmental knowledge and processes in work-related situations
Membership of a recognised professional institution for the specialist environmental sustainability area, is required. For example, Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (formerly Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA))

The SHE team:
Step into a high-impact role as a Subject Matter Expert within BAE's dynamic SHE team, driving environmental compliance and sustainability across Naval Ships. With exposure to Type 26 and other major projects, you'll lead cross-functional initiatives, collaborate with regulators and internal teams, and support Line Leaders in implementing key SHE and sustainability policies. The role involves occasional travel to other Naval Ships sites and working across sector and group teams, expanding your influence and professional network. Reporting directly to the SHE Manager, you'll manage your own workload, shape decisions, and represent best practices. This role offers professional membership support and the chance to influence change and gain exposure across the business.
