Newmedica is one of the leading providers of NHS ophthalmology services in England, delivering outpatient appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery to change lives through better sight and eye health.
We're proud to have been certified as a Great Place to Work for the third year running and listed among the UK's top 50 Best Workplaces(TM) for 2025 -- recognition that reflects how colleagues feel about working here.
Our Purpose is to change lives through better sight and eye health, and our Vision is to end avoidable sight loss in every community we serve; we live our values every day -- Commercial, Courageous, Compassion, Collaborative and Curious.
Role overview
As our ER Advisor, you'll be a trusted partner to leaders and managers across Newmedica and our Ophthalmology Joint Venture partnerships (OJVs), offering practical, timely employee relations advice on people matters while keeping us aligned to employment legislation and our policies.
You'll report to the Head of People. This is a full-time, homebased role with nationwide travel as required, and you'll play a key part in nurturing fair, consistent outcomes across the business.
What are we looking for?
This role is a Fixed Term Contract until June 2026. We're looking for someone who is immediately available and can start the contract in January 2026. We will be holding interviews on 15th and 16th January. We are ideally looking for someone based in the Nottingham area.
You'll be someone who enjoys solving complex ER challenges and can balance empathy with clear, evidence-based judgement.
You'll guide managers through the full spectrum of ER issues--from probation and sickness through performance, grievance and disciplinary--attending meetings and hearings when needed, keeping cases moving and leaders informed.
You'll compile insights from monthly trends, suggest proactive interventions, and support organisational change, all while coaching managers to build capability and confidence.
You'll also help keep our policies current and fit for purpose, represent HR at the Policy Sub-committee, and share knowledge across the HR team.
What skills and experience do I need?
You bring a solid foundation in HR--minimum CIPD Level 3 and ideally Level 5 -- and a strong track record of resolving ER cases in multisite environments.
Your advice is grounded in up-to-date UK employment law and best practice, and you're confident writing clear, usable policies.
Personally, you thrive in a fast-paced setting, communicate brilliantly, stay calm under pressure, and know when to escalate.
You're organised, pragmatic, discreet, and IT savvy, with a flexible, curious mindset; experience in healthcare is a bonus.
