Job summary
Forestry & Land Scotland (FLS) is an executive agency of the Scottish Government (SG). We are responsible for managing around 640,000 ha of Forests and Land in Scotland on behalf of Scottish Ministers The role covers our South Region, which extends from the eastern Scottish Borders to the Isle of Arran, and south to the Solway Coast, including the Galloway Forest Park, the Tweed Valley and the Ae plateau.
This new post will be sit within the core Regional Estates team, reporting to the Area Land Agent but working across functional boundaries to optimise the management of our let assets, drive efficiencies and value creation and manage internal and external relationships. The national Commercial Development Directorate provides support and strategic direction to the five Regional Estates teams who are tasked with directly managing a wide-range of let regional assets to generate income, including houses, farms, quarries, telecom mast sites, strategic access, sporting and commercial land and buildings. Recognising the important and growing contribution Estates will make to the core FLS "Property and Land Agency" value stream as we strive for financial sustainability, we need to develop and implement an asset management approach with a professional and efficient focus on financial performance and the effective management and administration of agreements.

Job description
The Estates Manager is a new post that will provide additional resilience and capacity within an increasingly busy Estates team led by the Area Land Agent, with a particular focus on the day to day management of a large portfolio of leases and other agreements and associated landlord and tenant relationships. Acting as a first point of contact between tenants, members of the public and FLS staff across different teams, the Estate Manager will be an experienced property and estates manager within a Scotland context, with excellent communication, relationship management and organisational skills.###

Essential:
Experience of managing land and property assets and leases and agreements in Scotland
Experience of electronic and spatial records management
Experience of developing and maintaining relationships across internal teams, with lease and agreement holders and other stakeholders
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Experience in brokering pragmatic solutions
Effective negotiation skills
Desirable:
A working knowledge of agricultural and residential legislation and other land and property law relevant to Scotland
Technical
Essential:
The ability to effectively manage all financial aspects of leases and agreements, including budgeting and debt management
The ability to review and accurately interpret leases and agreements
