We are looking to strengthen our team with the addition of a Technical Estimator.
We are a fast-growing sub contract engineering and manufacturing business operating at the forefront of innovation across aerospace, defence, marine, automotive, and other advanced industries. With a reputation for delivering complex, high-value projects, our company is undergoing an exciting period of transformation--investing in a comprehensive machine replacement programme and the integration of a state-of-the-art Manufacturing Execution System (MES) to support world-class production standards.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting the Sales & Estimating team by producing accurate and timely cost estimates for customer quotations and tenders. This position requires a strong technical understanding of tooling processes and materials, along with the ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements. The role contributes to both the strategic pricing and day-to-day quotation activities essential to the company's growth and profitability.
Specific Responsibilities
Prepare detailed cost estimates for tooling projects based on customer RFQs, engineering drawings, and specifications.
Collaborate with the sales, engineering, and production teams to gather technical input and ensure all cost elements are captured.
Evaluate manufacturing processes, material requirements, lead times, and subcontracted work to determine accurate pricing.
Assist in preparing and formatting formal quotations and proposals for submission to customers.
Support the Sales team with technical insights during proposal discussions and customer meetings.
Track and maintain estimating documentation and historical cost data to improve future accuracy and efficiency.
Participate in project handovers to ensure smooth transition from quote to production.
Contribute to ongoing improvements in estimating tools, templates, and cost models.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong technical background in manufacturing or engineering, preferably within the defence and/or aerospace tooling industry.
Proven experience in an estimating, costing, or quotation role.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Solid understanding of manufacturing methods, materials, and machining processes.
High attention to detail and strong numerical accuracy.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software or ERP systems.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Qualifications & Experience
HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline.
Experience with aerospace/defence industry standards and customer requirements.
Familiarity with ISO or AS9100 quality environments.
Experience in a customer-facing technical or commercial support role.
This is a permanent position based at our site in Burnley
Working a 39-hour week
7.45am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and 7.45 to 1pm on Friday
