About this role:
This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding business built on quality and integrity where you can really make a difference. The Estimator role is a hybrid role and will be part of the core construction team and central to the success of our projects. Working closely with the Construction Directors, Estimator, Project Managers, Site Managers and Subcontractors; this role is key to ensuring our projects meet agreed specification, budget and the standards we and our clients expect.
This will be a detail orientated role for a candidate with a proven track record in estimating/quantity surveying, construction management and a strong planning and financial discipline. Understanding financial and contract discipline is essential. Good record keeping and timely accurate communication is essential. A successful candidate will preferably have five years experience in this discipline with strong environmental and sustainable credentials.
The role requires a motivated and proactive individual who can help document a project cost plan to specification and is a completer finisher incorporating all planning, contract and financial aspects of a project so they can be tracked and managed. Able to oversee any variations and presenting them to the relevant Project Manager to approve and action. A successful candidate will aim to exceed customer expectations, have and eye for detail and the experience to identify the best approach for delivering projects.
Good organisational and communication skills are essential and they must be able to multitask in a busy, friendly team based environment.
Role and responsibilities include:
Learn and live the Nicholls culture and the quality standards it expects
Interpret clients plans, understand the project brief and work with the Construction Director to create a detailed cost plan with quantities
Work with Sub-Contractors to ensure quotes are accurate, competitive and reflect what they will deliver on a project
Work closely with the existing experienced Estimator
Act as Estimator on approximately 2 to 5 projects at any one time
Arrange Project pack handover/kick-off meeting with Project Manager, Assistant-PM and Site-Mgrs.
Assist with procurement buying products or services and the right product at the best price
Evaluate and price/plan variations requested by the client or its agents. Share and discuss these variation requests with PM who will liaise directly with the client
Use your experience to identify potential flaws in a scope of works or design proposed by the architect. Proactively share changes with PM, A-PM and S-Mgrs.
Work closely with PMs and S-Mgrs. to answer any queries that may occur, based on the original specification and the practicalities of the site
Working with the PM and Project Finance, review actuals vs. forecast on all projects to assess any project cost variances. Use this information to ensure all future projects are priced accurately. Share learnings with the team
You may be required to sign-off invoices following a period of probation
Meet clients or their agents on site as required and share design amends with PM, S-Mgrs. and A-PM in a timely manner
