Summary of the Role:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, detailed cost estimates for in house bespoke joinery items and sub-contracted furniture for commercial developments including hotels, offices and student accommodation. This office-based role requires close collaboration with clients, designers, project managers, and suppliers to ensure projects are quoted competitively, delivered on time, and within budget. The estimator will review project specifications, identify material and labour requirements, identify the most effective manufacturing / procurement route for the project and use our database and excel spreadsheets to produce comprehensive cost breakdowns.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and interpret tender packs, design drawings, and technical specifications to fully understand project scope and client requirements.
Prepare detailed cost estimates for bespoke joinery, including materials, labour, and installation, using excel spreadsheets.
Submit detailed RFPs to suppliers of sub-contracted components and products, review responses and select the best value proposition for the project.
Negotiate with suppliers to obtain optimal pricing for materials, sub-contracted manufacturing and installation.
Liaise with internal teams (sales, design, project management) and external clients to clarify project needs and present detailed proposals and recommendations.
Identify potential cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or client expectations.
Ensure all estimate information is logged, tracked, and updated throughout the tender process.
Participate in pre- and post-tender meetings to discuss project requirements and present estimates.
Provide feedback and support during project handover to the design team, workshop and project managers.
Monitor ongoing projects to ensure budgets are adhered to, revise estimates and prepare variation costs when required.
Source new suppliers subject to specific project requirements and the overall needs of the business.
Submit PQQs, and onboard new suppliers.
Take an active role, alongside the project managers in the project review and supplier evaluation processes.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge
A Good understanding of joinery techniques, materials, and manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with construction drawings, technical specifications, and bespoke joinery requirements.
Awareness of industry standards, health and safety regulations, and best practices in estimating and cost management
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft excel.
Excellent numeracy and analytical skills for accurate cost calculation and financial analysis.
Strong negotiation skills for securing competitive supplier pricing.
Ability to interpret complex drawings and specifications with high attention to detail.
Effective written and verbal communication for liaising with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
