Location: Sewell HQ, Geneva Court, Geneva Way, Leads Road, Hull, HU7 0DG (Regional Opportunities)

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Role Overview

Working with the bid team the Estimator will help manage a continual pipeline of opportunities and will be responsible for ensuring accurate nett cost estimates and robust commercial submissions are in place for each bid, working across the whole construction business on projects ranging from \xc2\xa3100k to \xc2\xa310m.

As part of the role the Estimator will work alongside the Bid Manager/Project Manager to assemble and co-ordinate a bid team with the relevant knowledge required to prepare an accurate and robust bid, taking ownership of the commercial and contractual aspects of the submission to ensure risk is adequately assessed.

Taking overall responsibility for the commercial submission, you will oversee the bid from tender stage through to contract award, ensuring a robust commercial handover to the delivery team. This is a role that requires an ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines. It will require strong management and technical skills.

Key Responsibilities

Overall

  • Establish a clear and thorough understanding of the bid requirements, including the main deliverables and the client\'s drivers for developing the project
  • Support the bid process to compile an accurate nett cost estimate
  • Work with the bid team(s) and project stakeholders to ensure a robust technical and commercial submission is issued to industry leading standard
  • Support the development of talent within the commercial team
General
  • Work alongside the bid manager to develop and monitor tender period programme and deliverables schedule
  • Develop robust subcontract enquiries and appraise subsequent responses as necessary
  • Undertake take - offs of materials and labour operations from G.A. Drawings, Schedules and Specifications. If necessary, establish Bills of Quantities and provide Bills of Materials to facilitate material supply pricing.
  • Develop all technical queries and associated clarifications to ensure a robust submission
  • Ensure risk and opportunities registers are produced and managed throughout the bid process
  • Work alongside the bid team to develop a robust delivery strategy for the scheme, ensuring a detailed programme, logistics plan and design schedule is in place to form part of the technical submission and ensure nett costs reflect the agreed delivery strategy
  • Co-ordination of value engineering / design alternatives
  • Ensure that bids are completed in a timely fashion
  • Lead on commercial presentation at internal adjudication and ensure all relevant clarifications and are in place
  • Develop a robust commercial handover pack giving the project team the best platform to deliver Construction Excellence on site
  • Maintain dialogue with the delivery team and Directors to feedback any lessons learnt into future bids
Requirements:

Essential:
  • Proven capability in estimating and winning refurbishment and new build construction projects between \xc2\xa3100,000 and \xc2\xa310m, minimum of 5 years\' experience is essential
  • Experience of pricing traditional and Design and Build Contracts
  • Experience of pricing different contract forms, including NEC and JCT
  • Advanced commercial awareness and risk management skills to provide valuable input into opportunity qualification, win strategies, commercial discussions and design solutions
  • Have extensive technical construction knowledge
  • Have the ability to manage complex, multi-workstream opportunities
  • A high knowledge and awareness of industry best practices and H&S initiatives
  • Will be fully conversant with the competitive marketplace
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Have above average skills in utilising Microsoft Office
  • High attention to detail, and an innovative and proactive approach to problem solving
  • The ability to plan effectively to ensure deadlines are met
  • Have a full driving licence, valid in the UK
Desirable:
  • Experience with Estimating software is preferable but not essential
