Ev Propulsion Integration Engineer

Warwick, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced EV Propulsion Integration and Validation Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end integration, design validation, and performance optimization of electric vehicle propulsion systems. This role requires a strong understanding of vehicle systems architecture, exceptional problem-solving skills rooted in engineering first principles, and hands-on experience with simulation and in-vehicle testing.

Key responsibilities

EV Propulsion System Integration: Lead the technical integration of electric propulsion components (e.g., EDU, battery, power electronics) into vehicle platforms. Ensure seamless hardware and software compatibility, as well as optimal performance. Test and Validation Strategy: Develop and execute comprehensive Design Verification (DV) plans for EV propulsion systems. This includes defining test cases, methodologies, and acceptance criteria to ensure all performance and functional safety requirements are met. Simulation-Based Validation (PiL/ViL): Conduct Processor-in-the-Loop (PiL) and Vehicle-in-the-Loop (ViL) testing to validate control software, system functions, and component behavior in a simulated environment. Design of Experiments (DOE): Design and execute formal Design of Experiments to systematically investigate and optimize system performance, efficiency, and reliability. Analyze test data to draw conclusions and drive design improvements. Data Acquisition and Analysis: Implement advanced data logging strategies to capture critical vehicle performance metrics from test rigs and prototype vehicles. Perform thorough data analysis to identify issues, trends, and areas for optimization. Root Cause Problem Solving: Serve as a technical expert in solving complex, cross-functional engineering issues related to propulsion system performance. Utilize a structured approach, such as the 8D methodology, to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with design, controls, software, and hardware teams to define requirements, review designs, and ensure alignment throughout the development process. Innovation: Apply strong engineering first principles to solve complex problems and contribute to the development of new, innovative EV technologies.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Automotive, or Mechatronics Engineering. Proven experience in EV propulsion systems integration and high-voltage (HV) system validation. Expertise in PiL/ViL testing methods and a strong command of related tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, CANalyzer/CANoe). Hands-on experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and data acquisition systems for vehicle testing. Skilled in the 8D problem-solving methodology. Exceptional data logging, analysis, and diagnostic skills. Deep understanding of automotive development processes, functional safety standards (e.g., ISO 26262), and regulatory requirements. Excellent communication, technical documentation, and presentation skills.

Additional Skills

Experience with high-voltage battery systems, electric motors, and inverters. Proficiency with requirement management tools (e.g., JIRA). A track record of taking products from prototype development to production.
