Job Description


The Evening Librarian is responsible for the effective delivery of the evening library service across Central St Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Fashion and Holborn, University of the Arts London.

You will lead a team of 10 Library Assistants working across different sites. The service runs during undergraduate term-time (3 terms per year), Monday - Friday 6pm - 10.15pm.

This is a 38-week contract (pro-rata), 21.25 hours per week, equating to 0.51 FTE. Depending on the academic year 30 - 32 weeks are worked in the evening, and other hours will be used for training and reserve hours during the day as arranged with your line manager.

About you

We are looking for someone with a degree qualification or equivalent. A recognised library qualification or qualification in other information disciplines is desirable e.g. CILIP accreditation, non academic library or archives experience, NVQ or apprenticeship, library or teaching post graduate cert/dip/MA/MSc. Relevant experience in library or other education or information roles is desirable.

You will have excellent written and oral communication skills and be IT literate and liaise with colleagues working throughout the day, night, and weekends to ensure a coherent and consistent experience for our users.

Leading the evening team you will have excellent team management skills and be able to demonstrate success in ensuring appropriate resources and support are available to enable the team and individual members to achieve their objectives. You will be able to motivate 10 team members across three college sites and ensure that they understand what is expected of them, delegating work appropriately, monitoring progress and resolving any issues. As the sole evening Library Services manager, you will deal with any situations that may arise.
