As the Evening Stage Door Keeper at the Shaftesbury Theatre, you will be the main point of contact for anyone entering the building after hours, including staff, performers, crew, and contractors. You'll play a key role in making sure the Theatre remains safe, secure, and welcoming.
The Stage Door is not only the security checkpoint--it's also the first impression many people have of the Theatre. Your role is essential in providing clear communication, maintaining access control, and helping the building operate smoothly in the evenings. You'll also help manage dressing room access and may assist with securing the building at the end of the night.
You will report to the Head of House Management, who is your line manager.
Usual Hours: Tuesday to Saturday - 5:15pm till 11.15pm with the potential for overtime/additional hours by agreement
Key Responsibilities
Greet and support all staff, performers, visitors, and contractors arriving at the Stage Door in a polite and professional way.
Monitor access to the Theatre and allow entry only to authorised individuals. Issue passes and keys and keep accurate records.
Monitor the safety and security systems, including the Fire Alarm and CCTV, dealing with any issues that arise where possible or escalating where necessary.
Respond to emergencies, including contacting emergency services if needed and assisting with evacuation procedures and roll calls.
Act as the first point of contact for anyone working in the building, helping to direct them or answer their questions.
Operate the Theatre's switchboard, answering calls and passing on messages or information to the relevant team members.
Receive all deliveries and ensure that items are collected quickly by the appropriate departments.
Track and manage outgoing items or collections placed at the Stage Door, including lost property. Follow up with departments if items are not collected.
Act as a keyholder and lock up the theatre as required.
Help maintain and improve Stage Door procedures to ensure the area runs efficiently and safely.
Provide timely reports or updates when requested by the management team.
Communicate clearly and respectfully with colleagues, sharing information that helps others carry out their duties, while always maintaining confidentiality.
