The Department of Economics is currently seeking an Events and Communications Manager to join its Professional Services team. Reporting to the External Engagement Manager, you will collaborate with colleagues across the collegiate University, coordinating communication activities and providing professional guidance and support to fellow team members.

This key role will be responsible for implementing the internal and external communication strategy for the Department. The post-holder will lead an exciting programme of change over the next few years to review and bring a new approach to communications at the department - internal and external communications, including outreach activities.

This exciting and diverse position holds significant importance in ensuring effective communications within the Department of Economics. You will contribute to the Department\'s success through impactful staff and student communications, encompassing various platforms like websites, digital channels, events, and publications. Creating engaging content on a wide range of topics and fostering effective communication flows between the department and its key stakeholders.

Who are we looking for?

Someone with extensive communications experience (print, digital and social media), excellent writing skills and an ability to communicate complex concepts in an engaging way to a non-specialist audience. Ideally you would have a relevant degree otherwise you would need to demonstrate equivalent professional experience in roles within communications. You will need to be flexible to work occasional out of office hours for events. Although not essential, experience working in the Higher Education section and professional qualifications in PR or marketing would be advantageous. You will need to be able to build strong working relationships, with stakeholders including with senior colleagues, so excellent interpersonal skills including diplomacy are a must. You must be able to provide guidance to less experience colleagues.

You will have strong experience taking initiative and working independently to meet project deadlines as well as being a strong team player. Excellent research and analytical skills are key as is the ability to interpret complex data. Strong IT skills are a must; you will have proficiency in using MS Office suites including Sharepoint and Nexus365. Experience using web content management systems is a must and you will be adept at quickly learning new systems (we use Drupal and Mosaic), newsletter software and other in-house systems. Ideally you would have experience using digital design applications (i.e., Adobe InDesign or Canva). Training on specific systems can be provided.

This is a permanent role, available immediately. The role is office based in the city centre of Oxford but team operations permitting, flexible working may be available.

The closing date is noon on the 22nd of September, 2023. It is expected that interviews will be held in early to mid-October, 2023.
