Our client, the Museum of East Dorset (MED) is seeking a highly organised and motivated individual to join their team as an Events Officer (referred internally as Visitor Experience & Programming Officer). In this role, you will develop and deliver an engaging programme of activities and events for the museum, focusing on maximising earned income potential. Working with volunteers, you'll develop and promote a group booking offer and create an offsite Talks volunteer team. You'll ensure high standards of presentation are maintained across the site.

This sets out the specific ways in which your individual objectives and day to day activities will help us to bring our vision to life: to celebrate our rich heritage through a vibrant museum and cultural hub which connects people with the past and offers enjoyment, learning and inspiration to visitors of all ages.

This is a permanent, part time role comprising of 21 hours per week. Your work pattern will include every other Saturday.

Your key responsibilities:

Programming and Events -

Design and deliver an exciting, site wide programme of seasonal events and immersive family adventure trails, crafting memorable experiences that appeal to our target audiences and drive profitability throughout the year. Engage proactively with partners to bring fresh cultural activities to site, including those which appeal to families. Be the point of contact for our Paranormal Investigations team member Work within agreed budgets to meet targets whilst delivering great visitor experiences. Monitoring and evaluate the programme to ensure activities deliver the intended outcome - through increasing visitor numbers or generating a profit. Stay up to date with current trends and introduce new opportunities to the museum. Implement all required health and safety procedures, including writing risk assessments, to ensure the safety of all participants.
Visitor Experience -

Oversee the Cleaner/Caretaker to ensure good standards of cleanliness and presentation of the site. Line manage the Garden volunteers, including working with them on the delivery of activities in the Garden. Manage the museum's venue hire, maintaining relationships with existing hires and finding new repeat business. Organise and promote group visits to the museum, including tours, and offsite talks. Complete the weekly banking.
Marketing -

In conjunction with other team members, support or deliver programming and group visit related marketing activity to target audiences, including drafting press releases, posters, flyers, social media, radio interviews and updating the museum's website.
Volunteers -

Ensuring volunteers feel appreciated and understand how their role supports the museum. Working with the Volunteer Development volunteer to effectively recruit, manage and develop Tea Room volunteers. Ensuring relevant induction programmes and all relevant training is completed. Planning activities to thank volunteers. Dealing with any issues or feedback promptly.
General -

Undertaking general duties of Duty Officer, supporting volunteers, opening and closing the Museum and handling day to day queries on a rota basis. Ensuring that you and others comply with the museum's H&S processes and procedures to minimise the risk to the public, staff and volunteers. Acting as a role model in encouraging a code of conduct that supports personal credibility, integrity and confidence in the future of the museum. Act as a Key Holder for the museum, attending alarm activations out of hours. Regularly update and provide information, as required, to the Board of Trustees. You will be expected to carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with the scope of your role.
About you -

We are looking for someone who is capable of completing busy and varied tasks, a great communicator who can work well with a wide range of people, as well as demonstrating good IT skills, including Wordpress and Canva.
