Job Description

Salary: 12.65 per hour, plus 14.5% holiday pay (casual basis - no fixed hours)

Cotham School is a successful, vibrant and diverse 11-18 comprehensive school, that wishes to appoint a number of exam invigilators to join our friendly and well-established team, overseeing examinations throughout the year.

This role will allow you to work flexibly on a casual basis supporting Cotham School to ensure all exams are conducted in accordance with exam guidelines. There are no fixed or regular hours of work.

Invigilators will be required from January 2026 for mocks and external exams throughout the year. Availability from the start of May until June 20th is essential

The role involves setting up examination rooms by laying out the correct materials and papers, ensuring exam procedures are followed, distribution and collection of examination papers and monitoring students during the examination periods according to the JCQ regulations.

Morning exam sessions usually start at 8.00 am (for an exam start at 8.45 am) and afternoon sessions at 1.00 pm (for an exam start at 1.45 pm). The length of exam papers varies and sessions last on average between 2-4 hours.

All invigilators must complete statutory online safeguarding training and an online invigilation training module which takes approximately 6 hours before their first invigilation.

We also need people who are willing to be trained as a one to one reader and/or scribes for our access arrangement students.

Purpose of post:

To conduct all exams in accordance within the exam guidelines.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:



Maintain the security of exam papers at all times and ensure that the conduct of the exam takes place within the guidelines set down by the Joint Council of Qualifications (JCQ). Collect question papers, attendance registers and all other necessary materials from the Exams Office before an exam. Check the exam room is set up in accordance with JCQ regulations. Ensure a calm environment to give candidates the best possible opportunity to be successful in their exams. Accurately complete attendance registers noting the arrival time of any student arriving after the start of the exam. Be vigilant at all times during an exam and record any incidents that occur. Collect and collate completed scripts at the end of the exam and return them to the Exams Office.
