Do you have proven experience of providing support to an executive with a public facing role, dealing with media work and public events and other engagements and liaising with high profile figures? Then join Shelter as Executive Assistant and you could soon be playing a vital support role at the heart of our Communications, Policy and Campaigns Directorate

About Shelter

A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the team

As the cost-of-living squeeze begins to grip the lives of millions, a broken housing system looks more fragile than ever before. In response, our Comms, Policy and Campaigns Directorate (CPC) is re-doubling its efforts in the fight against poor housing and homelessness. Our aim is to lead the campaign to secure greater rights for renters and a new generation of truly affordable social homes. Things are tough for the people we help, but we firmly believe that change is within our grasp. This is your chance to help us to achieve that change and create a fairer society for those who lack the comfort and security of a proper home.

About the role

As an Executive Assistant, you\'ll be responsible for the efficient running of the Director\'s office and providing executive support for the Directorate Leadership Team, as well as the wider leadership team. Day-to-day, we\'ll rely on you to provide a high level, confidential, executive support service to the Director and Assistant Directors of the directorate and support other senior managers when required. Acting as the first point of contact for enquiries and signposting/involving ADs or other managers as necessary, managing the Director\'s email inbox and diary, booking travel, processing expenses claims, organising meetings and helping to organise an annual departmental conference - these are just some aspects of this interesting and varied role.

We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.

About you

Well-organised and proactive, with great problem-solving skills and the ability to work well on your own initiative and under pressure, you enjoy managing high level relationships and communications. You\'re also used to supporting all levels of meetings, including developing agendas; taking good quality minutes; ensuring agreed actions are followed up and dealing with the practical aspects involved. Experience of event planning or project management is important too, as is a flair for diary and email management. And, when it comes to drafting communications, producing high quality Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents quickly and identifying alternative ways to improve layout and impact, again, you deliver. Last but not least, you have a flair for identifying and implementing improvements to admin systems and processes and are comfortable managing a complex portfolio.
