Marland is a highly successful school and residential setting for children between the ages of 5 to 16 years (KS1-4) special school for students with complex Social, Emotional and/or Mental Health (SEMH) and other related needs. This special school is currently located across four sites; Peters Marland, Barnstaple and Central Bideford and East of the Water, Bideford. This post will be based at the Residential School, Peters Marland.

The overall Marland group of schools are currently graded as 'Good' by Ofsted Education, with the residential care provision separately judged to be 'Outstanding' by Ofsted Social Care inspectorate. Our overarching ethos is based around personalisation and meeting the needs of each individual child. We utilise 'THRIVE' based social and emotional development at the core of everything we do.





Marland School Governors are seeking to appoint an individual who is inspirational, highly motivated and forward-thinking, with a broad focus on system level improvement and change. The successful candidate will have the energy and passion to lead a high achieving team of Headteachers and senior leaders, who positively impact the lives of young people and their family.





The strategic role of the Executive Headteacher:

Encourages a culture of partnership, support and collaboration across the whole school and with key partners across Devon and beyond. With school governors, set the strategic aims ahead and lead change across the school. Drive the delivery of exceptional outcomes for pupils through an ambitious, highly engaging and relevant curriculum. Provide high-quality support for staff that fosters effective learning and broadens the implementation of technological advances that improve and increase engagement in learning. Ensure the school continues to offer positive experiences that support pupils' spiritual, social, moral and cultural growth.


You will also be an excellent communicator, equipped with proven track record of successful whole school development and improvement, with the commitment to lead the school forward delivering outstanding learning and bespoke therapeutic interventions for pupils and young people with complex social, emotional and mental health needs.
