Overview
We are seeking an inspiring and strategic
Executive Headteacher
to provide group-wide leadership across In Toto Ed Cambridge and In Toto Ed Peterborough.
Both schools are established
alternative provisions
now applying to become registered
Special Schools
. They offer creative, flexible, and life-changing education for young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH) -- where individuality is celebrated, and possibilities are redefined every day.
The Executive Headteacher will play a key role in shaping our next chapter: strengthening consistency across both provisions, supporting each Head of School to excel, and leading our transition into a recognised network of special schools known for compassion, innovation, and excellence.
Role Purpose
Provide strategic oversight and leadership across both schools within the In Toto Ed Group.
Ensure high standards of teaching, learning, safeguarding, and wellbeing across all provisions.
Support and challenge the Heads of School to deliver outstanding educational and pastoral outcomes.
Embed the In Toto Edethos of creativity, inclusion, and belonging in every aspect of school life.
Lead the group through the next phase of development -- including special school registration, growth, and future expansion.
Represent In Toto Edwith local authorities, partners, and the wider educational community as a confident and compassionate ambassador.
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement a unified strategic vision that aligns both schools under the In Toto Edmission.
Provide professional leadership and mentorship to Heads of School, building leadership capacity across the group.
Support recruitment and succession planning to ensure strong, values-driven appointments at all levels.
Drive quality assurance, self-evaluation, and school improvement planning to ensure both provisions maintain excellence and readiness for inspection.
Work with Directors to oversee financial planning, resource management, and sustainable growth.
Lead the transition from alternative provision to special school registration, ensuring compliance and readiness with DfE and Ofsted expectations.
Promote cross-site collaboration, innovation, and the sharing of best practice.
Quality, Safeguarding and Standards
Maintain strategic oversight of safeguarding across all schools, ensuring exceptional standards of care and compliance.
Champion a culture of reflection, accountability, and high expectations for all.
Oversee student progress, teaching quality, and staff development across provisions.
Ensure that every young person -- regardless of background or need -- receives a personalised and empowering educational experience.
People and Culture
Support Heads of School in building high-performing, creative, and compassionate teams.
Foster a culture of trust, openness, and shared purpose across all provisions.
Lead with authenticity, visibility, and empathy, modelling the values of In Toto Ed*. Promote wellbeing and professional growth for all staff through coaching, collaboration, and recognition.
External Relations and Representation
Build strong relationships with local authorities, commissioners, parents, and community partners.
Represent In Toto Edat key forums and events, championing our innovative model of inclusive education.
Support growth initiatives and communication strategies that strengthen the In Toto Edidentity and reputation.
Safeguarding and Welfare
Hold overall accountability for safeguarding across all provisions.
Ensure that all staff uphold the highest standards of child protection, welfare, and safeguarding practice.
Lead a culture where safety, care, and inclusion are at the heart of every decision.
Essential Qualities and Skills
Proven senior leadership experience (Headteacher or equivalent) within an SEMH, AP, or Special School context.
A clear record of school improvement and strategic leadership.
NPQH or equivalent leadership qualification.
Deep understanding of SEMH, SEND, and inclusive education.
Strategic, reflective, and innovative thinker with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
High levels of emotional intelligence, integrity, and personal credibility.
