COPA Accounting is a fast-growing, modern accounting firm based near Manchester Airport. We work with ambitious, growing businesses across a range of industries, with a strong focus on e-commerce, digital-led companies and owner-managed businesses.
We're a digital-first practice that values clarity, quality, and client relationships over box-ticking. As the firm continues to grow, we're looking to strengthen our senior team with an experienced accountant who can take ownership, support clients, and help lead the team.
We operate in a relaxed but professional environment with flexible working and a strong emphasis on doing things properly, not rushing work out of the door.
The Role
This is a senior, hands-on role for an experienced practice accountant who is confident preparing accounts and tax work, but also enjoys working directly with clients and supporting the wider team.
You'll play a key role in relieving pressure from the directors, improving client service, and helping the firm scale in a controlled, high-quality way.
You'll be trusted to manage your own workload, spot issues before they become problems, and contribute to the strategic direction of the firm.
Key Responsibilities
Preparation and review of statutory accounts for limited companies
Preparation and review of personal tax returns and self-assessments
Managing a portfolio of clients and acting as their main point of contact
Leading and participating in client strategy and advisory calls
Reviewing work prepared by junior team members and providing constructive feedback
Diagnosing accounting, tax, or process issues and proposing solutions
Supporting and mentoring junior and semi-senior staff
Improving systems, workflows, and internal processes
Assisting the directors with higher-level client work and ad hoc projects as required
What We're Looking For
Strong experience working in an accounting practice environment
Confident preparing accounts and self-assessments independently
Comfortable speaking to clients and explaining financial information clearly
A proactive mindset with good commercial awareness
Someone who takes pride in quality and accuracy
Experience reviewing work and supporting less experienced team members
Strong organisational skills and ability to manage deadlines
Experience using Xero and cloud accounting tools
ACA / ACCA qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience
What We Offer
Competitive salary, dependent on experience
Flexible and hybrid working
A modern office near Manchester Airport
A supportive, ambitious, and down-to-earth team culture
The opportunity to genuinely influence how the firm operates and grows
Exposure to advisory work and higher-level client conversations
Ongoing development and progression as the firm scales
The Opportunity
This role is ideal for someone who wants more than just a compliance-only position. You'll have the chance to step into a senior role where your experience is valued, your input is listened to, and your work directly improves both client outcomes and the business as a whole.
We're not looking to hire urgently, but we are keen to speak to the right person if they come along.
