We are seeking an experienced Senior Client Manager to oversee key client accounts, manage financial processes, and mentor junior staff. Based in Peterbrough, you will play a vital role in maintaining our reputation for outstanding service and industry leadership.

Key Responsibilities



Client Relationship Management



Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of SME and high-net-worth clients, ensuring all needs are proactively met. Develop a deep understanding of each client's business model, objectives, and challenges to deliver tailored advice. Build strong, long-term relationships with clients through consistent communication, responsiveness, and results. Conduct regular review meetings to discuss financial performance, tax planning, and strategic growth opportunities. Manage client onboarding, including engagement letters, AML checks, and integration into internal systems.
Handle client queries promptly, professionally, and with attention to detail, ensuring compliance with firm policies and FCA/ICAEW ethical standards.

Financial and Technical Delivery



Oversee preparation and review of financial statements, management accounts, VAT returns, corporation tax computations, and self-assessment returns. Identify opportunities for clients to improve profitability, optimise tax efficiency, and implement sound financial strategies. Coordinate with internal teams (accounts, tax, payroll, audit) to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of all client work. Ensure compliance with Companies Act 2006, UK GAAP (FRS 102/105), and HMRC requirements. Review client accounts and tax returns before submission to maintain technical excellence and consistency. Prepare and deliver business and tax planning proposals and presentations.

Leadership and Team Collaboration



Mentor and support junior accountants, client executives, and trainees in developing their technical and client service skills. Delegate work appropriately and review outputs to ensure efficiency and quality control. Collaborate with department heads to streamline processes, implement best practices, and enhance client delivery standards. Participate in internal management meetings to provide insights into client trends, risks, and service improvements.

Commercial and Strategic Focus



Contribute to revenue growth by identifying cross-selling and upselling opportunities across service lines (tax advisory, property structuring, business strategy, etc.). Maintain profitability across client portfolios through effective scope management and fee recovery. Support business development initiatives, such as webinars, client events, and networking opportunities. Assist in drafting proposals, pricing strategies, and engagement letters for prospective clients. Monitor client retention, satisfaction, and NPS scores, taking action to improve where needed.

Compliance and Quality Assurance



Ensure all client files are up to date and meet ICAEW, ACCA, and internal compliance standards. Manage WIP, billing cycles, and debtor control efficiently to maintain cashflow discipline. Uphold confidentiality and data protection under GDPR and the firm's internal confidentiality policy. Support audit and compliance reviews as required.

Key Skills and Attributes



Proven experience as a Senior Account Manager, Client Manager, or equivalent role within an accountancy or financial advisory firm. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a client-first approach. Strong technical knowledge of accounting, UK taxation (corporate, personal, VAT), and compliance regulations. High commercial acumen with the ability to identify opportunities and risks in client portfolios. Leadership ability - capable of mentoring, motivating, and developing junior team members. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, solution-driven mindset. Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Capium, Dext, or similar). Exceptional organisational and time-management abilities, able to manage competing priorities under pressure.

Qualifications



ACA, ACCA, or CTA qualified (or equivalent). Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience in client or account management. Strong track record of managing multiple clients and delivering high-quality results within deadlines.

Performance Metrics



Success in this role will be measured through:

Client satisfaction and retention rates. Portfolio profitability and fee recovery. Timely and accurate delivery of all client deliverables. New service adoption and client referrals.
Contribution to team development and firm growth.

Example of a Typical Activities



Team huddle, review portfolio performance, client catch-ups.

Review year-end accounts, plan tax strategy for high-value clients.

Conduct client meetings and business development calls

Oversee internal workflow reviews, approve workpapers, train junior staff.

Prepare client insights report and fee proposals, close weekly targets.
