About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and professional
Head Door Supervisor
to lead the security operations at a busy, high-profile nightlife venue in Birmingham. This is a leadership position requiring a confident, organised, and calm individual who can oversee a team, manage safety procedures, and maintain a secure yet welcoming environment for both patrons and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
Lead, manage and motivate a team of door supervisors
Ensure effective team deployment throughout the venue
Provide on-the-job coaching and ensure professional standards are upheld
Rota & Shift Coordination
Create and manage weekly staff rotas, ensuring full venue coverage
Adapt shift patterns based on operational needs (up to 6 days per week during peak periods)
Security Operations
Monitor venue entrances and exits, ensuring authorised access only
Oversee crowd control, especially during peak times
Prevent and manage antisocial behaviour professionally and lawfully
Conflict Management
Handle incidents involving intoxicated or disruptive individuals
Use de-escalation techniques to resolve tensions swiftly and discreetly
Compliance & Venue Rules
Ensure adherence to licensing laws, capacity limits, ID checks, and search protocols
Maintain high standards of conduct across the security team
Liaison & Communication
Work closely with venue management and emergency services when needed
Communicate clearly with staff and maintain incident logs and reports
Health & Safety Oversight
Ensure all emergency procedures and evacuation protocols are understood and followed
Respond to first aid situations and supervise staff awareness of safety procedures
Customer Service & Venue Presence
Represent the venue in a professional and friendly manner
Ensure patrons feel safe, respected, and welcome at all times
Venue Monitoring
Conduct venue patrols and monitor surroundings for security risks
Utilise CCTV and reporting tools where necessary
Incident Reporting
Keep clear and accurate records of all incidents, removals, and breaches
Follow venue and legal reporting standards
Requirements
Minimum 3 years' experience
in a senior or supervisory role within nightlife security
Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence
(mandatory)
Proven ability to lead a team under pressure
Experience creating and managing staff rotas
Excellent conflict resolution and communication skills
Physically fit and able to perform demanding duties
Calm, confident, and authoritative presence
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Desirable Qualifications
First Aid certified (or willingness to train)
Knowledge of Birmingham nightlife licensing laws and venue compliance standards
