Full-time | Based in London with UK and occasional European travel
About Underleaf
At Underleaf, we design, install, and care for planting schemes that bring life, beauty, and character to every environment, from contemporary offices and renowned restaurants to boutique hotels and private residences. Our work spans both interior and exterior settings and is built on craftsmanship, horticultural expertise, and a commitment to long-term plant health.
We are a women-led team and are proud to work in an inclusive, creative environment. We would particularly love to hear from women, LGBTQ+ professionals, and people of colour, who are still under-represented in horticulture. What matters most to us is passion, skill, and a shared respect for plants and people alike.
We have a reputation for delivering best-in-class horticultural work across London and beyond. We are now looking for an
Experienced Horticulturist - Installations
, who combines strong technical knowledge with calm, professional teamwork and confident driving experience in and around London.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced horticulturist to join our installation arm at Underleaf.
This role suits someone who thrives on variety, craftsmanship, and the changing rhythm of project-based work. You will work on diverse installations, from flagship retail spaces and renowned restaurants to private residences, bringing new planting schemes to life and ensuring every project is delivered to Underleaf's exacting standards.
The work is predominantly based in Greater London, but you will also travel across the UK and occasionally to continental Europe. Some projects involve overnight stays, early starts, or longer working days, balanced with shorter days during quieter periods. You should enjoy the pace and challenge of installation work and be comfortable adapting to new environments regularly.
This is a hands-on horticultural role. You will plant, prepare, and finish schemes to presentation standard, often working alongside a small, skilled team. A calm, proactive attitude and strong practical problem-solving skills are essential. You will represent Underleaf on site and ensure every project reflects our commitment to quality and detail.
Installation work often involves early starts, sometimes from 5 a.m., to load and travel to site.
Safe loading and unloading are part of the role, including securing fragile plants and planters for transport. You should be confident moving across a project site efficiently and tidily, keeping track of stock, tools, and materials, and ensuring everything returns to the van once the work is complete.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, load, and transport plants and materials safely to site, ensuring all items are packed securely and handled with care.
Install and establish new interior and exterior planting schemes to design specifications.
Carry out plant preparation, soil layering, irrigation setup, staking, top-dressing, and final presentation.
Identify and report any pest or disease issues, ensuring only healthy stock is installed.
Lead or support small site teams, fostering professionalism, cooperation, and pride in workmanship.
Coordinate with our studio and logistics teams to plan deliveries, load materials, and ensure installations run smoothly.
Travel to sites across Greater London, the UK, and occasionally Europe, adapting to different work environments and schedules.
Troubleshoot calmly and efficiently when unexpected challenges arise.
Communicate clearly with the studio team and provide concise site feedback after each project.
Uphold Underleaf's standards for quality, safety, and attention to detail on every site.
What We're Looking For
Minimum 3 years of hands-on horticultural experience, ideally including planting or landscape installations.
Excellent practical horticultural knowledge and a genuine passion for plants.
Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
A calm, solutions-focused approach under pressure.
Confident working independently and collaboratively on site.
RHS Level 2 (or equivalent) required; RHS Level 3 preferred.
Full, clean UK driving licence held for at least 2 years, with confident van-driving experience in and around London.
Comfortable travelling for work and staying away from home several nights per year.
Excellent communication skills and professional client-facing manner.
Reliable, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement.
Must have UK work authorisation (settled or pre-settled status if from abroad).
CSCS card preferred, IPAF or PASMA certification beneficial.

, depending on experience.
