Job Title: Experienced Legal Secretary - Residential Property
Location: Towcester
Salary: 26,000
Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Are you an experienced Legal Secretary with a background in residential property work, looking to join a busy, friendly high-street practice? This is a key role within a well-established firm, supporting the Head of Department and fee earners on a broad range of conveyancing matters from file opening through to post-completion.
You'll be based in the Towcester office, working in a close-knit team and playing an important part in ensuring a smooth, efficient client experience.
Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing correspondence and legal documents via audio typing and word processing
  • Managing client files, including daily filing, file opening/closing, storage and archiving in line with firm procedures
  • Preparing mail and enclosures for dispatch, ensuring all documentation is correctly attached and sent
  • Setting reminders for key dates, chasing search results and other actions to support smooth progression of matters
  • Liaising with clients, solicitors, lenders and third parties by phone, email and face-to-face as required
  • Assisting with the management of matters from exchange to completion and through all post-completion formalities
  • Supporting fee earners on purchase, sale, remortgage and transfer of equity files
  • Answering incoming calls in a professional manner, taking accurate messages and directing queries appropriately
  • Handling general administrative duties, including completion statements, accounts queries, postings and billing
  • Preparing, editing and formatting documents, and undertaking occasional legal research for the Head of Department
The Ideal Candidate
To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • 2-3+ years' experience as a Legal Secretary in a busy Law Firm
  • Solid experience within Residential Property / Conveyancing
  • Excellent organisation and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a professional telephone manner
  • High levels of accuracy, attention to detail and pride in producing quality work
  • Reliable timekeeping and a proactive, "can-do" approach
  • The ability to work autonomously while also being a genuine team player
Desirable
  • Experience supporting a Head of Department or senior fee earner
  • Confidence in using case management systems and MS Office
  • Local knowledge of the Towcester/Northamptonshire area
