Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Plater who is confident working both in a busy fabrication workshop and on customer sites. The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently, interpreting detailed drawings, fabricating to tolerance, and taking a lead role on site-based installations when required. This position would suit a proactive individual who takes pride in quality workmanship and can represent the company professionally when dealing with clients and other contractors.
Key Responsibilities
Fabricate steelwork from drawings, including beams, columns, platforms, frames, handrails, plate work, and general structural fabrications.
Accurately mark out, measure and prepare materials.
Work independently to agreed timescales and quality standards.
Lead small teams on site, coordinating tasks safely and efficiently.
Carry out site installation, fitting, bolting and welding activities as required.
Adhere to H&S standards at all times, including correct PPE and safe working methods.
Liaise with workshop supervisor / project manager regarding progress, materials, and any technical or site-related queries.
Ensure good housekeeping and safe working environments in workshop and on site.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proven experience as a Plater/Fabrication Plater in both workshop and site environments.
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering / fabrication drawings.
Competent in oxy/acetylene burning, grinding, drilling and general fabrication tools.
Experience leading a small team on site and coordinating tasks.
Ability to work unsupervised and use own initiative.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
CSCS / CCNSG / SPA Passport or equivalent site safety training.
FLT / MEWP / Telehandler / Banksman or slinging & lifting qualifications.
Experience working on industrial, commercial or energy sector sites.
Basic MIG welding ability (coding advantageous but not essential).
