Are you interested in developing your communications and customer service skills at an organisation that plays a vital role in the democratic process?

The Electoral Commission is the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance in the UK. It works to promote public confidence in the democratic process and to ensure its integrity.

The role
We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic new team member to answer voter queries in the run up the May elections next year.

You will be responsible for responding to voter enquiries and correspondence, as well as handling calls to our voter information phone line. You will provide accurate and timely information about the voting process, voter registration and the UK\xe2\x80\x99s electoral system.

The role sits within the Customer Services Team, and forms part of a wider External Communications Team which engages and communicates with the media, parliamentarians and voters to explain the work of the Commission. This role will support the wider External Communications Team, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to learn more about different communication disciplines, such as public relations, public affairs and strategic communication.

This role is offered as a fixed term contract until May 2024, with the possibility of extension to May 2025 to cover the expected UK parliamentary general election and local and mayoral elections taking place in May 2025.

The successful candidate
You will have good written and verbal communication skills, and be confident handling enquiries from members of the public. You will have great organisation skills and the ability to clearly and simply explain complex information.

You will have an interest in UK politics, and a willingness to learn more about the Commission, its role in the democratic system and how we communicate our work to the public.

You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, as part of a collaborative and dynamic team and have strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

Working at the Electoral Commission
