The Fundraising Department raises private income for MSF field operations globally, and to cover MSF's administration costs in the UK. The Fundraising Department contains the Major Gifts, Individual Giving and Supporter Care teams and in 2021 a team of around 35 people delivered income of 65.5 million. The Individual Giving Team is headed by the Head of Individual Giving. This Team is responsible for recruiting and developing our support from private individuals, raising 80% of MSF UK's total income in 2021. The Individual Giving Team actively raises funds from the public, recruiting and maintaining this support through direct marketing campaigns, created in partnership with professional agencies. The Individual Giving Team works very closely with the Communications and Digital teams.
Our goal is to build loyalty by bringing supporters closer to the people that MSF assists, and the medical action that private donations make possible. MSF UK prides itself on the accessibility of the Fundraising team to our supporters and the provision of excellent supporter care; this is central to the philosophy of the team.
This role is required to work closely with the Face to Face (F2F) Programmes Lead, Head of Individual Giving, teams within fundraising, Public Engagement, HR colleagues, field staff and our safeguarding team. Liaise with other teams within MSF to identify other areas where the F2F fundraisers skillset can be utilised for example Donor Events, Public Engagement activities etc.
JOB PURPOSE
To aid in the management and development of MSF's F2F team and help to grow MSF UK's regular giving income. This involves being a key point of contact for the F2F team, helping to monitor and evaluate performance, providing coaching, motivation, training, support and safeguarding.
To work closely with the F2F PS Manager to enable a smooth running of the campaign - including site booking, compliance, performance management, recruitment and deputising for the F2F PS Manager when required.
To work closely with the F2F PS Manager to develop opportunities and engagement strategies for the team, as well as being a key facilitator of growth for the campaign.
To be a consistent presence on private sites, often alongside the F2F PS Manager, to provide coaching, modelling behavior/results as well as providing well being and support to the team. Ideally working one weekend day/week.
HYBRID WORKING: At least 3 days on site each week.
ACCOUNTABILITIES & KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
1. Driving performance of the campaign
Build and maintain strong working relationships with team members.
Coach Staff on site: identifying and correcting skill gaps.
Goal Setting: daily, weekly and monthly with teams and individuals.
Modelling excellent work ethic, fundraising and results.
2. Providing day to day support to TLs and FRs and informing line manager of any issues or actions needed
Provide on-site coaching and support with fundraising, especially with new starters.
Be a key point of contact for the team for ad hoc queries - informing line manager where necessary.
Lead on phone support for teams and crew leads in private sites.
Be a main point of contact for safeguarding issues - completing and passing on incident reports as well as adding reports to the safeguarding log. Having safeguarding meetings with team members, alongside F2F PS Manager and F2F Development Manager.
3. Playing a major role in the interview process for the F2F team - including leading on this where necessary
Organise and collate candidate information once received by F2F PS Manager from recruitment agencies.
Preparing score sheets and interview question sheets ahead of time.
Introducing interview tasks to candidates and acting as a member of the public in tasks where necessary.
Aid F2F PS Manager to collate interview feedback to provide to recruitment agencies.
4. To aid the F2F PS Manager in carrying out monthly performance reviews, as well as ad-hoc meetings
Monitor individual fundraising results against agreed KPIs.
Prepare reviews/development diaries ahead of time.
Be able to lead on performance reviews in absence of F2F PS Manager.
Includes meetings surrounding pre-performance plans and performance plans, alongside F2F PS Manager.
5. Support the F2F PS Manager with team logistics and site bookings
Communicate with site brokers to choose appropriate private sites for weeks and months ahead: considering cost, foot fall and staff capacity.
Be able to use HR capacity to make accurate and timely rotas for the whole F2F team, in absence of F2F Operations Coordinator.
Assist the F2F PS Manager in booking sites with multiple site brokers.
Book train tickets for team members.
6. Delivering skill based and charity focused trainings and workshops to the team regularly
Identify training needs of team from time spent on site.
Create trainings and workshops to fit these needs.
Deliver presentations during monthly refresher trainings.
7. Engagement Strategies: Aiding F2F PS Manager and F2F Events and Festivals Manager to define innovative engagement strategies internally
Establish and drive team incentives.
Develop and roll out competitions to drive results.
Lead on the monthly performance newsletter and send out to teams on a monthly basis.
8. Lead on mystery shopping
Organise mystery shops and audits with internal and external stakeholders.
Monitor and record results of audits/shops.
Have regular meetings with F2F PS Manager and report any successes and issues identified.
9. Exceeding expectations with own fundraising and consistently meeting target
Lead from the front on FR results.
Model exceptional FR behaviours.
Consistently meet and/or exceed FR targets.
Be motivated to drive results of campaign on site and set example of positive mindset
10. Deputise for F2F PS Manager
Whenever required be able to deputise for F2F PS Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Substantial experience fundraising, team leading or coaching in F2F context.
Expert knowledge of F2F fundraising techniques and best practice.
Strong working knowledge of PS fundraising.
Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to build relationships, rapport with supporters and work within a team environment.
A proven track record of target achievement and commitment to meeting targets and deadlines.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate MSF's work, carry out presentations and produce written documents to a high standard.
Proven ability to work independently within a team environment.
Flexibility to take on other related tasks combined with a willingness to learn.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Commitment to the aims and values of Medecins Sans Frontieres.
Ability and flexibility to travel in London and the UK.
Good knowledge and understanding of most common safeguarding needs and risks of a F2F team and on how to support team members.
