Arts University Plymouth
is seeking to appoint a
Fab Lab Technologist
to support Fab Lab South West.
We are looking for a hands-on, technically skilled digital fabrication Technologist to join the dynamic team at Fab Lab South West. This role blends technical expertise with creative problem-solving, supporting a wide range of users, from students and academic staff to external businesses and public audiences.
As a Fab Lab Technologist, you'll support the day-to-day operations of the Lab, delivering workshops, technical sessions, and project support across a wide range of digital manufacturing and prototyping technologies.
About You:
Proven experience in digital fabrication, including CAD software (Fusion 360, Rhino) and processes such as 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, and other prototyping technologies.
Experience in teaching, demonstrating, or supporting learning in a creative or technical environment.
Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
Knowledge in health & safety and workshop best practices, with a good understanding of safe systems of work, equipment maintenance, and risk assessments.
Keen to continue learning in a rapidly evolving field.
About The Role:
Deliver technical workshops and inductions for students, staff and external clients.
Design and deliver timetabled, open access, and specialist sessions.
Support curriculum delivery, University projects, research, and commercial activity.
Provide one-to-one technical support, guiding practical application and developing online resources to support self-directed learning.
Coordinate day-to-day operation of Fab Lab facilities, equipment, and consumables,
Implement and uphold health and safety protocols, including risk and COSHH assessments, inductions, and safe operating procedures.
