The Facilities Worker plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, clean, and fully operational environment within the hospital. This position involves a wide range of duties including general maintenance, repair work, routine inspections, and assisting with hospital infrastructure upkeep. The ideal candidate will ensure the hospital's physical environment supports the health and safety of patients, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform general maintenance and repair duties including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting.
Conduct routine inspections of hospital equipment, systems, and infrastructure.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and infection control guidelines.
Assist with the setup of hospital furniture, equipment relocation, and room modifications.
Maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation.
Monitor and support energy conservation and sustainability initiatives.
Operate maintenance tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
Communicate effectively with hospital departments regarding facility needs or disruptions.
Support environmental services, security, and other hospital teams as needed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum 1-3 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or a related field; experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
Knowledge of basic trades: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry.
Familiarity with OSHA standards and hospital safety protocols.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Good physical stamina and ability to lift, climb ladders, and perform manual labor.
Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and on-call shifts as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in HVAC, Electrical, or Plumbing (e.g., EPA 608, journeyman license).
Prior experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Understanding of Joint Commission and infection prevention standards.
Working Conditions:
Hospital environment with exposure to noise, equipment, and occasional hazardous materials.
Must follow strict safety, health, and cleanliness standards.
Requires regular walking, standing, lifting, and use of tools.
