This position is part of a small team that covers the College 24/7 and involves working on a varied three-week shift pattern, with on-site on-call duties. Accommodation will be provided for this duty and is necessary for the performance of the allocated duties.
JOB CONTEXT
Glenalmond College is a co-educational independent boarding school in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, for children aged between 12 and 18 years. The College was founded in 1847 and provides independent education to up to 400 boarding and day pupils supported by up to 150 academic and non-academic staff. The campus is situated in 300 acres of stunning countryside 8 miles from Perth. The rural location is idyllic and the charm of the historical buildings is second to none.
The majority of full-time teaching staff and some non-teaching staff along with their families live on-site in accommodation (approximately 50 homes) provided by the College.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Performance of preventative maintenance tasks
Performance of duties to improve the aesthetics of the College such as decoration or basic tasks to improve the fabric
Performance of reactionary maintenance tasks
Responsible for opening and securing buildings as required
Inspect buildings and equipment for damages and security
Assisting with the management of mail and delivery of parcels to pupils in Boarding Houses
Responsible for the effective and efficient movement of furniture, equipment and other assets
Setting up and dismantling of equipment for meetings and events as instructed
Driving duties as required to support key business functions and outputs
Swimming pool and water system maintenance [training will be provided]
Provide cover elsewhere in the department as required
Assisting with fire activations, water issues, power outages, storm damage and advising key personnel within the Facilities and Maintenance Team
Record information for Authorities e.g. Fire Officer
Ensure relevant task-specific Risk Assessments are available for (but not limited to) Working at Height, and Manual Handling
Ensure full compliance with all health & safety requirements
Perform additional tasks as necessary such that maintain or enhance the estate and/or grounds.
JOB CHALLENGES / PROBLEM SOLVING
The role is part of a small team and demands constant juggling between the commercial needs of the College and the personal needs of those living on site. In addition, the importance of the protection of the children at the school must always be front of mind. The size of the campus (300 acres) and the mix of commercial and domestic systems means the role is diverse and challenging. This is a physical job and requires a physically fit and alert person, with excellent people skills. A D1 driving licence is required as is the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces if and when required.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
The successful candidate is required to work weekends and evenings as part of the shift pattern; this is a rolling three week shift pattern during term time with one week being on call. There are silent duties, hence the provision of accommodation which is not charged, and the need to cover additional duties if a team member is away or sick.
